Published: January 2024

The luminescence properties and excellent carrier transfer ability of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have attracted much attention in the field of photocatalysis. In this work, we loaded the CQDs on the surface of CuO to enhance the visible-light property of CuO. Furthermore, the composite was used for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. The composite catalyst achieved high selectivity (90%) for benzaldehyde at room temperature, leveraging its visible-light-induced electron transfer properties and its photocatalytic activity for hydrogen peroxide decomposition. ·OH was shown to be the main reactive oxygen species in the selective oxidation reaction of benzyl alcohol. The formation of heterostructures of CQDs/CuO promoted charge carrier separation and provided a fast channel for photoinduced electron transfer. This novel material exhibited enhanced levels of activity and stability for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol. Potential applications of carbon quantum dot composites in conventional alcohol oxidation reactions are shown.

Background: Megalobrama amblycephala presents unsynchronized growth, which affects its productivity and profitability. The liver is essential for substance exchange and energy metabolism, significantly influencing the growth of fish.

Results: To investigate the differential metabolites and genes governing growth, and understand the mechanism underlying their unsynchronized growth, we conducted comprehensive transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of liver from fast-growing (FG) and slow-growing (SG) M.

Volatile Sieving Using Architecturally Designed Nanochannel Lamellar Membranes in Membrane Desalination.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Key Laboratory of New Membrane Materials, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, School of Environmental and Biological Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing 210094, P. R. China.

Thermally driven membrane desalination processes have garnered significant interest for their potential in the treatment of hypersaline wastewater. However, achieving high rejection rates for volatiles while maintaining a high water flux remains a considerable challenge. Herein, we propose a thermo-osmosis-evaporation (TOE) system that utilizes molecular intercalation-regulated graphene oxide (GO) as the thermo-osmotic selective permeation layer, positioned on a hydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride) fibrous membrane serving as the thermo-evaporation layer.

Low-temperature catalytic oxidation of ethanol over doped nickel phosphates.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

Laboratory of Coordination and Analytical Chemistry (LCCA), Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Chouaïb Doukkali University, Ben Maachou Road, B.P: 20, 24000, El Jadida, Morocco.

This work is focused on the synthesis and performance of Ni(PO)-based catalysts doped with Cu, Co, Mn, Ce, Zr, and Mg for the complete oxidation of ethanol, aiming at reducing emissions from ethanol-blended gasoline. Nickel phosphate was prepared via the co-precipitation method, followed by impregnation with the specified dopants. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized by XRD, N-physisorption, XRF, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, FESEM, NH-TPD, CO-TPD, and H-TPR to explain their performance.

This study presents a novel approach that combines thermogravimetric analysis with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TG-TOFMS), principal component analysis (PCA), and Kendrick mass defect (KMD) analysis─referred to as TG-PCA-KMD─to investigate molecular-scale structural changes and quantitatively assess the progression of thermo-oxidative degradation in glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (GF/PP). TG-TOFMS enables the simultaneous and sensitive detection of both structural changes due to thermo-oxidative degradation and compositional changes in the filler and matrix. PCA and KMD analysis are crucial for identifying specific ion series derived from the degraded PP matrix in the high-resolution mass spectra obtained through TG-TOFMS.

Analysis of growth physiological changes and metabolome of highland barley seedlings under cadmium (II) stress.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Coarse Cereal Processing, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Sichuan Engineering & Technology Research Center of Coarse Cereal Industrialization, School of Food and Biological Engineering, Chengdu University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

This study aims to investigate the physiological changes in growth and metabolic response mechanisms of highland barley under different concentrations of cadmium. To achieve this, cadmium stress was applied to green barley at levels of 20, 40, and 80 mg/L. The results revealed that, under Cd(II) stress, the chlorophyll content and photosynthesis in leaves of highland barley seedlings were inhibited to some extent.
