Vaccination is an ideal strategy for the control and prevention of toxoplasmosis. However, the thermostability and effectiveness of vaccines limit their application. Here, calcium mineralization was used to fabricate tachyzoites as immunogenic core-shell particles with improved immune response and thermostability. In the current study, RH particles coated with mineralized shells were fabricated by calcium mineralization. The mineralized shells could maintain the tachyzoites structural integrity for at least 12 months and weaken the virulence. Immunization of mice with mineralized tachyzoites induced high levels of antibodies and cytokines. The immunized mice were protected with a 100% survival rate in acute and chronic infection, and brain cyst burdens were significantly reduced. This study reported for the first time the strategy of calcium mineralization on and proved that mineralized tachyzoites could play an immune protective role, thus expanding the application of biomineralization in vaccine delivery.

Heterozygous variants in SOX10 cause congenital syndromes affecting pigmentation, digestion, hearing, and neural development, primarily attributable to failed differentiation or loss of non-skeletal neural crest derivatives. We report here an additional novel requirement for Sox10 in bone mineralization. Neither crest- nor mesoderm-derived bones initiate mineralization on time in zebrafish sox10 mutants, despite normal osteoblast differentiation and matrix production.

The nutritional value of any food product has historically been measured by the calorific value of individual components, harking back to the days of the development of the bomb calorimeter. A fuller understanding of nutrition later took into account the need for specific components, such as proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, that ere known to be required for good human health and growth. In milk and milk products, these include casein and whey proteins, lactose, milk fat triacylglycerides, minor lipid components (both charged and neutral), calcium, and micronutrients.

Bioabsorbable textile scaffolds are promising for bone tissue engineering applications. Their tuneable, porous, fibre based architecture resembles that of native extracellular matrix, and they can sustain tissue growth while being gradually absorbed in the body. In this work, immortalized mouse calvaria preosteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured in vitro on two warp-knitted bioabsorbable spacer fabric scaffolds made of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB), to investigate their osteogenic properties.

Background: Lifestyle modifications incorporating a healthy diet, physical activity, brain training and health monitoring have proven effective in preventing dementia and related cognitive decline (REF). The Australian-Multidomain Lifestyle Intervention to reduce dementia risk (AU-ARROW) is an ongoing 2-yearintervention, which is the Australian contribution to the World-Wide FINGERS network. Here we report on preliminary findings of baseline dietary energy and nutrient intakes of AU-ARROW participants.

Background: Kidney stone disease is a common surgical disease and significant public health issue, may be influenced by environmental factors such as domestic water hardness and its related minerals. Previous studies have shown inconsistent and controversial results regarding the impact of domestic water hardness on kidney stone formation.

Methods: This prospective cohort study analyzed data from 288,041 participants in the UK Biobank with no prior history of kidney stones from 2006-2024.
