Article Abstract

Rapid industrial growth and urbanization have resulted in a significant rise in environmental pollution issues, particularly indoor air pollutants. As a result, it is crucial to design and develop technologies and/or catalysts that are not only cost-effective but also promising high performance and practical applicability. However, achieving this goal has been so far remained a challenging task. Herein, a series of transition metal M - TiO (M = W, Fe, Mn) nanocrystals was prepared for photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), i.e., toluene. Of the nanocomposites tested, W-TiO showed significantly improved photocatalytic activity for VOC degradation under UV irradiation compared to the others. In particular, the optimized W dopant amount of 0.5 wt% resulted in the outstanding degradation performance of toluene (96%) for the obtained W-TiO(0.5%) nanocomposite. Moreover, W-TiO(0.5%) nanocomposite exhibited good stability for 32 h working under high toluene concentration (10 ppm) compared to the pristine TiO. The current work demonstrates the potential usage of M - TiO nanocrystals, particularly W-TiO(0.5%), as a promising photocatalyst for efficient VOCs degradation.

Synthesis of 5-substituted 1-tetrazoles and reduction of a variety of nitro compounds presents a promising solution for the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. However, the development of green catalysts with superior catalytic performance for this reaction remains a significant challenge. This research introduces a green protocol for the creation of ultrafine Cu(ii) metal immobilized on the surface of pectin hydrogel (HPEC), modified by a CoFeO/Pr-SOH magnetic nanocomposite, enabling the synthesis of tetrazoles and reduction of nitro compounds.

Accurate and efficient determination of malachite green (MG) in aquaculture is crucial for ensuring environment and food safety. Herein, we present a dual-response fluorescence probe based on an Ag/PMMA/Eu nanocomposite for the sensitive detection of MG with low concentration and single droplet. The luminescence properties of the Ag/PMMA/Eu nanocomposite and the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect between Eu and MG are significantly improved due to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect.

In the field of solar energy storage, photocatalytic ammonia production is a next-generation technology. The rapid recombination of charges and insignificant utilization of the sunlight spectrum are bottlenecks of effective photocatalytic N fixation. The introduction of impurities in the crystal lattice and the development of heterojunctions could effectively segregate carriers and improve the solar-light-harvesting capability, which can boost NH generation.
