Soil texture is one of the most important indicators of soil physical properties, which has traditionally been measured through laborious procedures. Approaches utilizing visible near-infrared spectroscopy, with their advantages in efficiency, eco-friendliness and non-destruction, are emerging as potent alternatives. Nevertheless, these approaches often suffer from limitations in classification accuracy, and the substantial impact of spectral preprocessing, model integration, and sample matrix effect is commonly disregarded. Here a novel 11-class soil texture classification strategy that address this challenge by combining Multiplicative Scatter Correction (MSC) with Residual Network (ResNet) models was presented, resulting in exceptional classification accuracy. Utilizing the LUCAS dataset, collected by the Land Use and Cover Area frame Statistical Survey project, we thoroughly evaluated eight spectral preprocessing methods. Our findings underscored the superior performance of MSC in reducing spatial complexity within spectral data, showcasing its crucial role in enhancing model precision. Through comparisons of three 1D CNN models and two ResNet models integrated with MSC, we established the superior performance of the MSC-incorporated ResNet model, achieving an overall accuracy of 98.97 % and five soil textures even reached 100.00 %. The ResNet model demonstrated a marked superiority in classifying datasets with similar features, as observed by the confusion matrix analysis. Moreover, we investigated the potential benefit of pre-categorization based on land cover type of the soil samples in enhancing the accuracy of soil texture classification models, achieving overall classification accuracies exceeding 99.39 % for woodland, grassland, and farmland with the 2-layer ResNet model. The proposed work provides a pioneering and efficient strategy for rapid and precise soil texture identification via visible near-infrared spectroscopy, demonstrating unparalleled accuracy compared to existing methods, thus significantly enhancing the practical application prospects in soil, agricultural and environmental science.

Ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF) are crucial for the formation of fruiting bodies, including the newly discovered , in Korea. This study explores the diversity and distribution of EMF communities associated with across various regions in Korea and assesses the effects of soil physicochemical properties on these communities. Soil analysis indicated that habitats have a lower pH compared to habitats documented in other studies, with sandy loam texture being optimal for fruiting body development.

Objective: To predict the potential geographic distribution of in Yunnan Province using random forest (RF) and maximum entropy (MaxEnt) models, so as to provide insights into surveillance and control in Yunnan Province.
Methods: The snail survey data in Yunnan Province from 2015 to 2016 were collected and converted into snail distribution site data. Data of 22 environmental variables in Yunnan Province were collected, including twelve climate variables (annual potential evapotranspiration, annual mean ground surface temperature, annual precipitation, annual mean air pressure, annual mean relative humidity, annual sunshine duration, annual mean air temperature, annual mean wind speed, ≥ 0 ℃ annual accumulated temperature, ≥ 10 ℃ annual accumulated temperature, aridity and index of moisture), eight geographical variables (normalized difference vegetation index, landform type, land use type, altitude, soil type, soil textureclay content, soil texture-sand content and soil texture-silt content) and two population and economic variables (gross domestic product and population).

Soil salinization is the most prevalent form of land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and coastal regions of China, posing significant challenges to local crop yield, economic development, and environmental sustainability. However, limited research exists on estimating soil salinity at different depths under vegetation cover. This study employed field-controlled soil experiments to collect multi-source remote sensing data on soil salt content (SSC) at varying depths beneath barley growth.

Natural attenuation represents a significant ecosystem function for mitigating the quantity and toxicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) through both abiotic and biotic dissipation processes. This study systematically investigated abiotic and biotic dissipation of phenanthrene (Phe) and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in four soils over 360 days, using CSIA to quantitatively analyze δ³C changes and demonstrate biodegradation. The results indicated that extractable Phe was primarily attenuated via biodegradation (65% - 81%), as revealed by CSIA, with the δ³C changes ranging from 2.

Native vegetation degradation impacts soil communities and their functions. However, these impacts are often studied by comparing soil biotic attributes across qualitatively defined, discrete degradation levels within a single plant community at a specific location. Direct quantification of the relationships between vegetation and soil attributes across continuous degradation gradients and at larger scales is rare but holds greater potential to reveal robust patterns in aboveground-belowground linkages that may apply across different plant communities.
