Staphylococcal food poisoning (SFP) is one of the most common foodborne diseases in the world. This study aimed to investigate the molecular epidemiological characteristics of isolated from SFP. A total of 103 isolates were obtained during 2011-2022 in Sichuan, southwest China. All isolates were tested for the genomic characteristics and phylogenetic analysis by performing whole-genome sequencing. Multilocus sequence typing analysis showed 17 multilocus sequence types (STs), ST7 (23.30%), ST5 (22.33%), and ST6 (16.50%) being the most common. A total of 45 virulence genes were detected, 22 of which were staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) genes. Among the identified SE genes, exhibited the highest prevalence (86.4%). All isolates carried at least one SE gene. The results of the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) gene detection revealed 41 AMR genes of 12 classes. β-lactam resistance genes (, , ) and tetracycline resistance gene () exhibited a higher prevalence rate. Core genome single nucleotide polymorphism showed phylogenetic clustering of the isolates with the same region, year, and ST. The results indicated that the SFP isolates in southwest of China harbored multiple toxin and resistance genes, with a high prevalence of new SEs. Therefore, it is important to monitor the antimicrobial susceptibility and SE of to reduce the potential risks to public health.

Article Synopsis
  • - Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a significant disease in central and western China, transmitted by sandflies and affecting both people and animals.
  • - Recent findings reveal VL hotspots in several border areas and a rapid increase in mountain zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis (MT-ZVL) in multiple provinces from 2011 to 2022, with 671 cases reported in historically affected areas.
  • - To combat the spread of MT-ZVL, public health recommendations include implementing One Health strategies, enhancing surveillance for sandflies and infected dogs, and ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment for patients.

This study investigates the impact of the development of the digital economy (DE) on coal consumption and the underlying mechanisms using Chinese provincial data over the period 2011-2022. The results demonstrate that DE development is correlated with reduced coal consumption. When the DE development increases by one standard deviation, the reduction in coal consumption is 0.

Article Synopsis
  • In 2009, China initiated comprehensive healthcare reform aimed at creating accessible, affordable, and efficient health services, focusing on the health workforce, funding, and infrastructure as key components.
  • This study examines the regional disparities and inequities in the distribution of healthcare workers, specifically technicians and nurses, across Chinese hospitals and primary health centers over a twelve-year period.
  • The findings reveal that while the overall ratio of health workers has increased, rural and western districts have better ratios compared to urban and eastern districts, indicating ongoing inequalities in workforce allocation at different healthcare levels.
