Efficient extraction via titanium organic frameworks facilitates in-depth profiling of urinary exosome metabolite fingerprints.

Anal Bioanal Chem

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Zhongshan Hospital, Department of Chemistry, Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China.

Urinary exosome metabolite analysis has demonstrated notable advantages in uncovering disease status, yet its potential in decoding the intricacies of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains untapped. To address this, a core-shell magnetic titanium organic framework was designed to capture urinary exosomes and assist laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS) to decipher the exosomal metabolic profile of ccRCC, with high sensitivity, throughput, and speed. A total of 492 urinary exosome metabolite fingerprints (UEMFs) from 176 samples were extracted for exploring the differences between ccRCC and healthy individuals.

Squamomelanocytic Tumor, An Entity Still Shrouded in Mystery: Case Report and Literature Review.

Dermatopathology (Basel)

January 2025

Section of Molecular Pathology, Department of Precision and Regenerative Medicine and Ionian Area (DiMePRe-J), University of Bari "Aldo Moro", 70124 Bari, Italy.

Cutaneous squamomelanocytic tumor (SMT) is a very rare cutaneous malignancy, composed of a dual phenotypic population of both malignant melanocytes and keratinocytes, intimately intermingled together. Herein, we report a new case of a SMT occurring in an 82-year-old man, located on the scalp. Histopathology revealed a mixed population consisting of squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma within the same lesion, also confirmed using immunohistochemical staining for high molecular-weight cytokeratins (HMWCKs) and Melan-A.

Hepatic epithelioid angiomyolipoma is a rare mesenchymal liver tumor within the perivascular epithelioid cell tumor family, known for its uncertain malignancy and potential for aggressive behavior. Clinical presentation, laboratory findings, and imaging results lack specificity, making pathological examination critical for definitive diagnosis. This case report presents a 61-year-old male patient with a single tumor in the right liver lobe, measuring approximately 101 mm × 99 mm.

Sedum alfredii Hance: A cadmium and zinc hyperaccumulating plant.

Electronic address:

The hyperaccumulating ecotype Sedum alfredii Hance is one of few Cd hyperaccumulators with Cd contents in leaves and stems up to 9000 mg/kg (dry weight, DW) and 6500 mg/kg (DW) respectively without displaying significant toxicity symptoms as reported in 2004. Numerous studies have been conducted to uncover the mystery of its hypertolerance and hyperaccumulation using high-throughput sequencing, biochemical and molecular techniques, mainly pointing to the root-microorganism interaction, restrained Cd storage in roots, efficient root-shoot translocation, effective cellular detoxification, and phloem-mediated metal remobilization. This also encourages studies on functional genes involved in metal transport, antioxidant, transcription regulation and stress response, providing candidates for genetic modification.

Pickering polymerized high internal phase emulsions: Fundamentals to advanced applications.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

February 2025

Kroto Research Institute, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom; Department of Materials Science and Engineering, INSIGNEO Institute for In Silico Medicine, The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Pickering-polymerized high internal phase emulsions have attracted attention since their successful first preparation 15 years ago, primarily due to their large pores and potential for functionalization during production. This review elucidates the fundamental principles of Pickering emulsions, Pickering HIPEs, and Pickering PolyHIPEs while comparing them to conventional surfactant-stabilized counterparts. The morphology of Pickering PolyHIPEs, with particular emphasis on methods for achieving interconnected structures, is explored and critically assessed.
