During extensive surveys of global diversity 14 new species detected in natural ecosystems in Chile, Indonesia, USA (Louisiana), Sweden, Ukraine and Vietnam were assigned to major Clade 10 based on a multigene phylogeny of nine nuclear and three mitochondrial gene regions. Clade 10 now comprises three subclades. Subclades 10a and 10b contain species with nonpapillate sporangia, a range of breeding systems and a mainly soil- and waterborne lifestyle. These include the previously described , and and eight of the new species: , , , , , , and . In contrast, all species in Subclade 10c have papillate sporangia and are self-fertile (or homothallic) with an aerial lifestyle including the known , , and and the new species , , , , and . All new species differed from each other and from related species by their unique combinations of morphological characters, breeding systems, cardinal temperatures and growth rates. The biogeography and evolutionary history of Clade 10 are discussed. We propose that the three subclades originated via the early divergence of pre-Gondwanan ancestors > 175 Mya into water- and soilborne and aerially dispersed lineages and subsequently underwent multiple allopatric and sympatric radiations during their global spread. : Jung T, Milenković I, Corcobado T, et al. 2022. Structural changes involving new neurons can occur through stem cell-driven neurogenesis and late-maturing immature neurons, namely undifferentiated neuronal precursors frozen in a state of arrested maturation. The latter exist in the cerebral cortex, being particularly abundant in large-brained mammals. Similar cells have been described in the amygdala of some species, although their interspecies variation remain poorly understood.

Unlabelled: Strain-level variation among host-associated bacteria often determines host range and the extent to which colonization is beneficial, benign, or pathogenic. is a beneficial symbiont of the light organs of fish and squid with known strain-specific differences that impact host specificity, colonization efficiency, and interbacterial competition. Here, we describe how the conserved global regulator, H-NS, has a strain-specific impact on a critical colonization behavior: biofilm formation.

Metabolic differences between males and females have been well documented across many species. However, the molecular basis of these differences and how they impact tolerance to nutrient deprivation is still under investigation. In this work, we use to demonstrate that sex-specific differences in fat tissue metabolism are driven, in part, by dimorphic expression of the Integrated Stress Response (ISR) transcription factor, ATF4.

Our understanding of the vertebrate immune system is dominated by a few model organisms such as mice. This use of a few model systems is reasonable if major features of the immune systems evolve slowly and are conserved across most vertebrates, but may be problematic if there is substantial macroevolutionary change in immune responses. Here, we present a test of the macroevolutionary stability, across 15 species of jawed fishes, of the transcriptomic response to a standardized immune challenge.

Background: Recent reports suggest increased myocardial iNOS expression leads to excessive protein -nitrosylation, contributing to the pathophysiology of HFpEF. However, the relationship between NO bioavailability, dynamic regulation of protein -nitrosylation by trans- and de-nitrosylases, and HFpEF pathophysiology has not been elucidated. Here, we provide novel insights into the delicate interplay between NO bioavailability and protein -nitrosylation in HFpEF.
