The authors report a case of a 66-year-old man with sudden-onset diplopia and redness in the left eye. The examination revealed left hypotropia with exotropia and limited elevation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography and histopathology suggested inferior rectus myositis with fibrosis.

Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) initiates somatic hypermutation (SHM) by introducing base substitutions into antibody genes, a process enabling antibody affinity maturation in immune response. How a mutator is tamed to precisely and safely generate programmed DNA lesions in a physiological process remains unsettled, as its dysregulation drives lymphomagenesis. Recent research has revealed several hidden features of AID-initiated mutagenesis: preferential activity on flexible DNA substrates, restrained activity within chromatin loop domains, unique DNA repair factors to differentially decode AID-caused lesions, and diverse consequences of aberrant deamination.

The second order cumulant method offers a promising pathway to predicting optical properties in condensed phase systems. It allows for the computation of linear absorption spectra from excitation energy fluctuations sampled along molecular dynamics (MD) trajectories, fully accounting for vibronic effects, direct solute-solvent interactions, and environmental polarization effects. However, the second order cumulant approximation only guarantees accurate line shapes for energy gap fluctuations obeying Gaussian statistics.

The selection of the optimal substitution model of molecular evolution imposes a high computational burden for long sequence alignments in phylogenomics. We discovered that the analysis of multiple tiny subsamples of site patterns from a full sequence alignment recovers the correct optimal substitution model when sites in the subsample are upsampled to match the total number of sites in the full alignment. The computational costs of maximum-likelihood analyses are reduced by orders of magnitude in the subsample-upsample (SU) approach because the upsampled alignment contains only a small fraction of all site patterns.
