Observational studies have suggested a possible relationship between gut microbiota (GM) and aneurysm development. However, the nature of this association remains unclear due to the inherent limitations of observational research, such as reverse causation and confounding factors. To address this knowledge deficit, this study aimed to investigate and establish a causal link between GM and aneurysm development.

Purpose: Studies suggest alcohol and/or other substance misuse may develop after bariatric surgery (BS), but findings are not consistent or conclusive.
Procedures: This cross-sectional online survey investigated alcohol and other substance use, via a modified version of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, before and after bariatric surgery, compared to a non-bariatric surgery sample. Data were anonymously collected via Qualtrics from adults who reported alcohol or substance use (BS, n = 328; non-BS, n = 292).

Whereas much knowledge exists on the expression of IFN pathways in the blood of people living with HIV (PLWH), its role has only recently been appreciated in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, the aim was to evaluate the gut mRNA expression levels of innate immune genes involved in the HIV-host interaction and their association with CD4 T cell activation in long-term HAART-experienced PLWH. PLWH had increased TLR4, IFN-α2, IFN-α14, IFN-β and IFNAR1 mRNAs levels in LPLs, as well as increased frequencies of CD4 T lymphocytes expressing CD38 or HLA-DR compared to the healthy donors.

A robust analytical method was developed for the determination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in e-cigarette refill liquids using solid-phase extraction (SPE) with weak anion-exchange sorbent, followed by detection with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The design of experiment approach was employed to optimize sample preparation, leading to the validation of the method with limits of detection for PFAS ranging from 0.24 to 1.

In this study, male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were exposed to bisphenol S (BPS) at environmentally relevant concentrations to investigate its reproductive toxicity and evaluate its effects on the gut-blood-testicular axis. After 28 days of exposure to BPS (0.05 and 20 mg/kg), the results showed a reduction in weight gain and the induction of reproductive toxicity in male rats, including decreased sperm parameters, lower sperm viability, and increased abnormal sperm density and mortality.

Background: Presently, the mitigation and governance of obesity have surfaced as significant public health dilemmas on a global scale. A wealth of studies indicated that the host gut microbiota is instrumental in regulating the interplay between high-fat diet (HFD) intake and the pathogenesis of obesity. Physiological premature fruit drop, a major byproduct of citrus, is rich in a variety of bioactive constituents, yet its potential has remained underutilized for an extended period.
