Culture media play an essential role in the success of IVF. Their composition has undergone major modifications over the 45 years since the birth of Louise Brown. Most IVF programmes now rely on commercially produced media, which they buy in small vials, guaranteed to be sterile and non-embryotoxic. Unfortunately, information about the components of the culture media and their concentrations is no longer available. Arguing that culture media recipes are proprietary, relevant commercial interests have stopped labelling their products with this vital information. Given the critical role that is played by culture media in the success of IVF, as well as the subsequent health of the children who are born after IVF, this information should not remain a 'company secret'. Clinicians and scientists working in IVF must insist that the labelling of culture media includes all of the constituents and their concentrations. Only in this way can we monitor the influence of culture media on IVF outcomes, innovate and continue to advance the field of IVF.

Polymer/ceramic nanocomposites integrated the advantages of both polymers and ceramics for a wide range of biomedical applications, such as bone tissue repair. Here, we reported triphasic poly(lactic--glycolic acid) (PLGA, LA/GA = 90:10) nanocomposites with improved dispersion of hydroxyapatite (HA) and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles using a process that integrated the benefits of ultrasonic energy and dual asymmetric centrifugal mixing. We characterized the microstructure and composition of the nanocomposites and evaluated the effects of the HA/MgO ratios on degradation behavior and cell-material interactions.

Cell-cultured meat involves cultivating cells from live animals through self-renewal methods or scaffolding and presents a promising alternative to traditional meat production by generating nutritionally rich biomass. The development of alternative proteins derived from fungi-based sources is gaining recognition due to their health benefits and lower environmental impact, compared to traditional animal-based sources. In this study, we investigated the culture conditions for mycelia, focusing on the nutritional requirements and yield optimization using solid surface culture and liquid-state culture methods. Objectives: To identify and evaluate the difference between voluntary and mandatory food marketing policies and regulations targeting childhood obesity and to study the role of media, the food industry, and private associations in implementing such policies.
Methods: A review of policies and legislation about unhealthy food marketing was conducted by searching and extracting relevant grey literature from the websites of international health agencies, food marketing pledge databases, GINA, and NOURISHING policy databases. Statutory laws and self-regulations of high-income countries were compared with each other and with the WHO recommendations.
