The antitumor effect on Meth-A fibrosarcoma in BALB/c mice of a synthetic cord factor, 6,6'-di-O-decanoyl-alpha,alpha-trehalose (designated as SS554), was examined. Only intratumoral injection had a curative effect; subcutaneous, per oral, or intravenous routes had no such effect. The co-presence of an oily vehicle has been shown to be necessary for antitumor activity of a natural cord factor.
