In this study, a binary composite adsorbent based on activated carbon and phosphoric acid geopolymer foam (ACP) was prepared by combining phosphoric acid geopolymer (PAGP) with activated carbon (AC) and applied for the removal of methylene blue (MB). Activated carbon was thoroughly mixed with a mixture of fly ash and metakaolin in varying ratios, followed by phosphoric acid activation and thermal curing. The ACP adsorbent was characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), surface area analyser (SAP), and thermogravimetric analyser (TGA).

Hydroxyapatite, renowned for its biocompatibility and osteoconductive properties, plays a fundamental role in bone regeneration owing to its resemblance to natural bone mineral, thus offering considerable potential for advancing tissue engineering strategies. In this article, the innovative integration of silicon ions into biogenic (bovine-derived) hydroxyapatite (SiBHA) via a tailored sol-gel process is reported. The resultant SiBHA scaffolds exhibited an interconnected microporous structure with a total porosity of 70% and pore dimensions ranging from 120 to 650 µm.

Chemical Dissipation from Outdoor Plastics: The Significant Impact of Transformation Processes Revealed by Adjusted Mass Transfer Modeling.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Industrial Ecology and Environmental Engineering (Ministry of Education), Dalian Key Laboratory on Chemicals Risk Control and Pollution Prevention Technology, School of Environmental Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China.

Chemicals in plastics raise significant concerns for potential adverse environmental and health impacts. However, dissipation kinetics and fluxes of chemicals from outdoor plastic products remain largely uncharacterized, hindering the accurate assessment of their environmental exposure. This study quantified outdoor dissipation profiles for 20 "priority" chemicals, including sunscreens (benzophenone, benzophenone-3, octyl salicylate, etc.

College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Green Catalysis & Synthesis Key Laboratory of Xinyang City, Xinyang Normal University, Xinyang 464000, China.

A novel and efficient method for the intermolecular hydroxysulfonylation of vinylarenes using sodium sulfinates has been achieved through aerobic copper catalysis. This transformation proceeded smoothly with green air as the terminal oxidant in the presence of Cu (I)/1,10-phenanthroline as an efficient catalytic system, leading to an array of β-hydroxysulfones in moderate to high yields. The significant advantages of this protocol are the mild reaction conditions, readily available starting materials, good functional-group compatibility, synthetic convenience, and practicability.
