Objectives: An analytical protocol based on isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS), which includes a peptide-based calibration strategy, was developed and validated for the determination of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) levels in clinical samples. Additionally, the developed method was compared with a protein-based calibration strategy, using cTnI serving as a model for low-abundant proteins. The aim is to evaluate new approaches for protein quantification in complex matrices, supporting the metrology community in implementing new methods and developing fit-for-purpose SI- traceable peptide or protein primary calibrators.

Background: How cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are formed, and how they cause tissue damage is not fully understood, but it has been suggested they are associated with inflammation, and they could also be related to increased blood-brain barrier (BBB) leakage. We investigated the relationship of CMBs with inflammation and BBB leakage in cerebral small vessel disease, and in particular, whether these 2 processes were increased in the vicinity of CMBs.

Methods: In 54 patients with sporadic cerebral small vessel disease presenting with lacunar stroke, we simultaneously assessed microglial activation using the positron emission tomography ligand [11C]PK11195 and BBB leakage using dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, on a positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging system.

January 2025

Tianjin Eye Hospital, Nankai University Affiliated Eye Hospital, Clinical College of Ophthalmology of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Eye Institute, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Tianjin300020, China.

To explore the efficacy of the modified lateral rectus muscle splitting and nasal transposition surgery in treating large-angle exotropia caused by oculomotor nerve palsy and its impact on ocular motility. Retrospective case series study. Data was collected from patients diagnosed with large-angle exotropia due to oculomotor nerve palsy and treated by modified lateral rectus muscle splitting and nasal transposition surgery at the Tianjin Eye Hospital from January 2020 to October 2023.

Background: To investigate the anatomical and functional outcomes of macular hole-associated retinal detachment (MHRD) after vitrectomy using the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique with autologous blood clot (ABC).

Methods: This retrospective observational study included 80 eyes with MHRD that underwent vitrectomy with ILM flap without (46 eyes) or with ABC (34 eyes). Fundus photography and optical coherence tomography were evaluated.

Objective: Isolated craniosynostosis of the sagittal suture results in scaphocephaly characterized by a long, narrow skull. Surgical correction of this condition remains debated, particularly regarding the necessity of directly addressing frontal bossing. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of extended strip craniectomy combined with bilateral barrel staving in improving cranial morphology without direct intervention on the forehead.
