Background: Genetic differences between isolated endemic populations of plant species and those with widely known twin species are relevant for conserving the biological diversity of our planet's flora. (Schlecht.) YY Yao is an endangered and endemic species of shrub almond from central Asia. Few studies have explored this species, which is closely related and morphologically similar to the well-known Batsch. In this article, we present a comparative analysis of studies of three populations and one close population of in Eastern Kazakhstan in order to determine the particular geographic mutual replacement of the two species.

Methods: The populations were collected from different ecological niches, including one steppe population near Ust-Kamenogorsk () and three populations () in the mountainous area. Estimation of plant height using a -test suggested a statistically significant difference between the populations and the two species ( < 0.0001). DNA simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were applied to study the two species' genetic diversity and population structure.

Results: A total of 19 polymorphic SSR loci were analyzed, and the results showed that the population collected in mountainous areas had a lower variation level than steppe populations. The highest level of Nei's genetic diversity index was demonstrated in the 4-UK population (0.622) of . The lowest was recorded in population 3-KA (0.461) of , collected at the highest altitude of the four populations (2,086 meters above sea level). The total genetic variation of was distributed 73% within populations and 27% between populations. STRUCTURE results showed that two morphologically similar species diverged starting at step  = 3, with limited population mixing. The results confirmed the morphological and genetic differences between and and described the level of genetic variation for . The study's results proved that the steppe zone and mountain altitude factor between and isolated mountain samples of .

This study investigated the potential of extended irradiation combined with immature embryo culture techniques to accelerate generation advancements in safflower ( L.) breeding programs. We developed an efficient speed breeding method by applying light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that emit specific wavelengths, alongside the in vitro germination of immature embryos under controlled environmental conditions.

The role of trait evolution in shaping the functional and ecological diversity of tropical forests remains poorly understood. Analyses of trait variation as a function of evolutionary history and environmental variables should reveal the drivers of species distributions, as well as generate insights valuable to conservation. Here, we focus on the Dipterocarpaceae, the key plant family underpinning the hyperdiversity of South-East Asian tropical forest canopies and of major conservation concern due to over-exploitation for timber, cultivation, and climate change.

Introduction: Functional traits of desert plants exhibit remarkable responsiveness, adaptability and plasticity to environmental heterogeneity.

Methods: In this study, we measured six crucial plant functional traits (leaf carbon, leaf nitrogen, leaf phosphorus, leaf thickness, chlorophyll concentration, and plant height) and employed exemplar analysis to elucidate the effects of soil environmental heterogeneity on intraspecific traits variation in the high-moisture-salinity and low-moisture-salinity habitats of the Ebinur LakeWetland National Nature Reserve.

Results: The results showed that (1) The soil moisture and electrical conductivity heterogeneity showed significant differences between the two moisture-salinity habitats.

Sucrose is an important factor affecting plant growth and fruit quality, but the molecular regulatory mechanism of sucrose biosynthesis in longan is not yet understood. Here, we characterized a transcription factor, DlbHLH68, positively regulates sucrose accumulation in longan. Subcellular localization and transcriptional activity analysis indicated that DlbHLH68 is a nuclear transcriptional activator.
