Background And Aims: Intra-articular steroids provide significant pain relief in sacroiliac joint pain (SIJP), but their action is short-lived. Cryoneurolysis is reported to produce prolonged pain relief in various pain conditions. However, its efficacy has not been evaluated in patients with SIJP. Thus, we compared the efficacy of cryoneurolysis with steroid injections in adult patients with SIJP.

Methods: This retrospective healthcare records review-based study involved 83 patients with SIJP. Patients were divided into two groups: cases (sacroiliac joint [SIJ] cryoneurolysis, = 39) and controls (SIJ steroid injection, = 44). An 11-point numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) was used to assess the pain severity at baseline and immediately, 1, 3 and 6 months post-intervention. A reduction of ≥50% in NPRS score immediately following SIJ cryoneurolysis and steroid injection was considered a successful outcome. The difference between the treatment groups was assessed with a Chi-square test, and < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results: Both cases and controls showed significantly decreased NPRS scores from baseline to immediately, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months postintervention ( < 0.001). However, compared to controls, cases had significantly lower NPRS scores at all time points (all < 0.001). Moreover, a significantly greater proportion of cases had ≥50% decrease in NPRS score from baseline, that is, 1 month (97.44% vs. 75%, = 0.004), 3 months (100% vs. 47.73%, < 0.001) and 6 months (69.23% vs. 27.27%, < 0.001).

Conclusion: Although both cryoneurolysis and intra-articular steroid injections provide significant pain relief immediately, 1, 3 and 6 months postintervention, cryoneurolysis resulted in significantly greater pain relief.

Lumbar canal stenosis (LCS) is a common cause of chronic lower back pain in the elderly. Traditionally, open decompression surgery has a prolonged recovery, higher blood loss, and more complications. As a result, there remains no clear consensus on which of these minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) techniques, including unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) and full endoscopy (FE), is the optimal technique for LCS treatment.

Surgical Oncology, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Tata Memorial Centre, Varanasi, IND.

Thrombocytopenia is a common complication in patients with solid tumors, particularly renal cell carcinoma (RCC), arising from mechanisms such as chemotherapy, direct tumor invasion, and paraneoplastic syndromes. Managing thrombocytopenia in advanced cancer presents significant challenges, often limiting therapeutic options and impacting patient outcomes. This case report describes a 62-year-old man with metastatic RCC complicated by persistent thrombocytopenia, unresponsive to both conventional treatments and novel therapies.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical benefits of the integrated optical and magnetic surgical navigation system in assisting transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD) for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent TELD for LDH at our hospital from November 2022 to December 2023. Patients treated with the integrated optical and magnetic surgical navigation system were defined as the navigation-guided transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (Ng-TELD) group (30 cases), while those treated with the conventional X-ray fluoroscopy method were defined as the control group (31 cases).

Background: This study aimed to investigate the safety and reliability of using bioabsorbable screws for the fixation of chevron osteotomy in the treatment of hallux valgus (HV) deformity.

Methods: Clinical cases of chevron osteotomy in the treatment of HV deformities in our hospital between December 2018 and August 2022 were retrospectively summarised to compare preoperative imaging indices with those at the final follow-up session, including the hallux valgus angle (HVA), intermetatarsal angle (IMA) and tibial sesamoid position (TSP). The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hallux metatarsophalangeal-interphalangeal scale, short-form health survey questionnaire (SF-36) and European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) scale were used to assess therapeutic efficacy.
