Unlabelled: Glycol-based antifreeze liquids, commonly composed of ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, have important uses in automotive cooling, but they should be handled with care due to their toxicity. Ethylene glycol is highly toxic to humans and animals. A fast, accurate, precise, and robust method was developed for the simultaneous quantification of seven most important glycols and their isomers.

Methods: Glycols were analyzed from diluted sample solution of coolants using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MC) in single ion monitoring mode.

Results: The method was developed and validated for seven individual glycols (ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, and tripropylene glycol). Limits of detection (1-2 μg/mL) and limits of quantification (10 μg/mL) obtained were appropriate. The present method was applied for the determination of glycols in 10 different antifreeze liquids commercially available on the Romanian market, proving to be reliable.

Conclusions: A method that requires only a two-step dilution of antifreeze samples combined with direct liquid injection GC-MS was validated for the simultaneous quantification of seven glycols (and their isomers) in 10 different types of antifreeze liquids. The results obtained in the validation procedure proved that the GC-MS method is sensitive and precise for the quantification of glycols.

The valid method was developed for analyzing empagliflozin in serum/plasma/urine using a molecularly imprinted ghost polymer-solid-phase extraction approach (MISPE) with liquid chromatographic methodology. Methacrylic acid (MAA) was used as the monomer, 2,2 azobis isobutyronitrile as the initiator and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker in the free radical polymerization procedure. Empagliflozin was loaded onto the polymer and eluted with 1 mL of a 9:1 MeOH:acetic acid solution.

Developing scaffolds supporting functional cell attachment and tissue growth is critical in basic cell research, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine approaches. Though poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and its derivatives are attractive for hydrogels and scaffold fabrication, they often require bioactive modifications due to their bioinert nature. In this work, biomimetic synthesized conductive polypyrrole-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) copolymer doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PPy-PEDOT:PSS) was used as a biocompatible coating for poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogel to support neuronal and muscle cells' attachment, activity, and differentiation.

Carboxylic acids and aromatic compounds are essential building blocks and starting materials for the production of a wide range of fine chemicals and materials. Their recovery from kraft black liquor, an industrial effluent from pulp and paper mills, is a promising way to produce alternative bio-based chemicals. Reliable methods are needed to identify and quantify the molecules of interest in complex mixtures such as black liquors.

As an important chemical reagent, methoxy polyethylene glycol amine (mPEG-NH) is widely used in biomedical field. Unraveling the pharmacokinetic behavior of mPEG-NH polymers is essential for revealing the toxicity and efficiency of mPEG-NH related drug delivery systems. In this study, a simple analytical assay based on mass spectrometry (MS) was first established and validated for quantification of mPEG-NH in biological matrix.
