Background: To compare an in-house and a commercially available surgical planning solution for mandibular reconstruction in terms of postoperative reconstruction accuracy and economic benefit.
Methods: Twenty-nine consecutive patients with advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) requiring segmental mandibular reconstruction were enrolled. Fifteen patients underwent in-house surgical planning and 14 patients underwent a commercially available planning solution. A morphometric comparison of preoperative and postoperative computed tomography (CT) data sets and a cost-benefit comparison were performed.
Results: Volumes of planned and reconstructed bone segments differed significantly for both in-house planning (p = 0.0431) and commercial planning (p < 0.0001). Significant differences in osteotomy angles were demonstrated for in-house planning (p = 0.0391). Commercial planning was superior to in-house planning for total mandibular deviation (p = 0.0217), intersegmental space volumes (p = 0.0035), and lengths (p = 0.0007). No significant difference was found between the two planning solutions in terms of intersegmental ossification and the incidence of wound healing disorders. In-house planning took less time than commercial planning (p < 0.0001). Component manufacturing costs (p < 0.0001) and total cumulative costs (p < 0.0001) were significantly lower for in-house planning.
Conclusions: In-house surgical planning is less accurate but has a cost advantage and could be performed in less time.

Background: The co-occurrence of Rathke cleft cysts (RCCs) and meningiomas in the sellar and parasellar regions represents an exceedingly rare clinical entity. Achieving maximal resection through a single operative approach while minimizing adverse events is challenging, often necessitating multiple surgical approaches, as suggested by previous reports.
Observations: The authors report the case of a 49-year-old female with a history of kidney transplant who presented with headaches and was diagnosed with coexisting RCC and meningioma in the sellar and planum sphenoidale regions, respectively.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to explore the feasibility of using the TianJi Robot system for navigated needle positioning in the PCNL procedure in vitro.
Methods: A pig kidney with a segment of ureter was selected as the in vitro organ model. Iodine contrast agent was infused into the renal pelvis to dilate the renal pelvis and calyx to establish the in vitro hydronephrosis model.

Hypoplasia of the upper jaw to one degree or another inevitably occurs in patients with cleft lip and palate. The most difficult task is to fix skeletal deformity of the upper jaw, especially the discrepancy between its transversal dimensions due to the high risks of recurrence after treatment. One of the key stages of rehabilitation of this group of patients is orthodontics and surgical treatment aimed at eliminating functional and aesthetic problems of the dental system.

Objectives: In the last 20 years, we have seen the flourishing of multiple treatments targeting the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) for pain. However, there is concern regarding the variation in the location of the DRG, which could influence the long-term clinical outcomes. The aim of this work was to determine the exact position of the DRG in the spine and propose a pre-surgical planning.

Background: Virtual surgical planning (VSP) with simple cutting templates could help surgeons preoperatively plan scapula reconstructions in the vertical and horizontal orientations.
Methods: Virtually, eight defects were created in ten healthy mandibles and reconstructed with the subject-specific scapula vertically and horizontally. In the clinical series, 15 single-piece scapula mandible reconstructions planned with in-house VSP and guided with simple templates were compared with 15 freehand reconstructions.
