Glucans with Different Degrees of Polymerization from CICC6055: Analysis of Physicochemical Properties and Intestinal Prebiotic Function.

This study explored the physicochemical properties and prebiotic activities of glucans and oligoglucans. Oligoglucans were obtained through the fermentation of CICC6055 and the glucansucrase of strain CICC6055, while glucans were obtained only through fermentation. Thin-layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography identified enzymatically synthesized oligoglucans with a higher yield. Differential scanning calorimetry and derivative thermogravimetry analyses revealed the heat resistance of the glucans and oligoglucans at 280-300 °C. Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses demonstrated that their main chains were linked with α-1,6-glycosidic bonds accompanied by glucose residue branching. In vitro fermentation experiments demonstrated that they not only improved the contents of short-chain fatty acids but also raised the abundance of predominant flora, such as , , , and . These results implicate glucansucrase as an efficacious tool for the enzyme synthesis of oligoglucans. Furthermore, both polysaccharides with different degrees of polymerization may be beneficial in maintaining a healthy human gut.

Following implantation, infections, inflammatory reactions, corrosion, mismatches in the elastic modulus, stress shielding and excessive wear are the most frequent reasons for orthopedic implant failure. Natural polymer-based coatings showed especially good results in achieving better cell attachment, growth and tissue-implant integration, and it was found that the inclusions of nanosized fillers in the coating structure improves biomineralization and consequently implant osseointegration, as the nanoparticles represent calcium phosphate nucleation centers and lead to the deposition of highly organized hydroxyapatite crystallites on the implant surface. An original design of a simple bioreactor was used to fabricate two tubular, 200 cm long BC structures by culturing B-11267 on a molasses medium. In addition, a tubular BC-based biocomposite with improved mechanical properties was obtained by combining cultivation on the molasses medium with in situ chemical modification by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Moreover, the present study investigated the BC production by the B-11267 strain on the media with different molasses concentrations under agitated culture conditions.

An innovative modeling approach for the simulative description of the part quality of rubber materials, including the processing history, is presented in this paper. This modeling approach, the so-called average curing speed (ACS) model, is based on the degree of cure and the average curing speed instead of the conventionally considered temperature approach. Such approach neglects the processing history by calculating only the degree of cure.
