Cobalt Encapsulated in Nitrogen-Doped Graphite-like Shells as Efficient Catalyst for Selective Oxidation of Arylalkanes. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Selective oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenne is an important process in both organic synthesis and fine chemicals diligence. The cobalt-based catalysts combined with nitrogen-doped carbon have received great attention in ethylbenzene (EB) oxidation. Here, a series of cobalt catalysts with metallic cobalt nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated in nitrogen-doped graphite-like carbon shells (Co@NC) have been constructed through the one-pot pyrolysis method in the presence of different nitrogen-containing compounds (urea, dicyandiamide and melamine), and their catalytic performance in solvent-free oxidation of EB with tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide (TBHP) as an oxidant was investigated. Under optimized conditions, the UCo@NC (urea as nitrogen source) could afford 95.2% conversion of EB and 96.0% selectivity to acetophenone, and the substrate scalability was remarkable. Kinetics show that UCo@NC contributes to EB oxidation with an apparent activation energy of 32.3 kJ/mol. The synergistic effect between metallic cobalt NPs and nitrogen-doped graphite-like carbon layers was obviously observed and, especially, the graphitic N species plays a key role during the oxidation reaction. The structure-performance relationship illustrated that EB oxidation was a free radical reaction through 1-phenylethanol as an intermediate, and the possible reaction mechanistic has been proposed.

Visual one-step simultaneous detection of low-abundance methylation is a crucial challenge in early cancer diagnosis in a simple manner. Through the design of a closed split bipolar electrochemistry system (BE), detection of promoter methylation of tumor suppressor genes in papillary thyroid cancer, and , was achieved using electrochemiluminescence. For this purpose, electrochemiluminescence of luminol loaded into the FeO@UiO-66 and gold nanorod-functionalized graphite-like carbon nitride nanosheet (AuNRs@CN NS), separately, on the anodic and cathodic pole bipolar electrodes (BPEs) in two different chambers of a bipolar cell were recorded on a smartphone camera.

Tellurium-doped mesoporous carbon composite materials (Te/NMC) have been prepared by a facile intercalation method in the presence of nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon (NMC) with tellurium powder, for the first time. The effects of the co-doped N and Te in the mesoporous carbon matrix on the physical/chemical properties and capacitance performances were investigated the use of various characterization methods and electrochemical studies. The as-prepared NMC and Te/NMC materials were found to mainly be composed of mesopores and maintained the 3D hierarchical graphite-like structure with lots of defect sites.

N-Doped Carbon Nanofibers with Interweaved Nanochannels for High-Performance Sodium-Ion Storage.

November 2019

Key Laboratory of Jiangxi Province for Persistent Pollutants Control and Resources Recycle, Nanchang Hangkong University, Nanchang, 330063, P. R. China.

Although graphite materials have been applied as commercial anodes in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), there still remain abundant spaces in the development of carbon-based anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, an electrospinning route is reported to fabricate nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers with interweaved nanochannels (NCNFs-IWNC) that contain robust interconnected 1D porous channels, produced by removal of a Te nanowire template that is coelectrospun within carbon nanofibers during the electrospinning process. The NCNFs-IWNC features favorable properties, including a conductive 1D interconnected porous structure, a large specific surface area, expanded interlayer graphite-like spacing, enriched N-doped defects and active sites, toward rapid access and transport of electrolyte and electron/sodium ions.

Preparation and application performance study of biomass-based carbon materials with various morphologies by a hydrothermal/soft template method.

Nanotechnology

May 2019

State Key Laboratory Base for Eco-Chemical Engineering, College of Chemical Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, 53 Zhengzhou Road, Qingdao, Shandong province 266042, People's Republic of China.

Nitrogen-doped carbon materials with controllable morphologies were prepared via a soft template method using chitosan as the carbon and nitrogen source and F127 or ionic liquid as the template. The performance of the materials as electrodes and adsorbents for carbon dioxide removal were evaluated. Carbon spheres (CSs) with developed micropore structures were obtained without a template, whereas a tubular structure (CSF) containing mesopores with long-range order was obtained using F127.
