Pharmacokinetic modeling of prenatal vitamin D exposure and the impact on offspring asthma and pulmonary function.

Biomed Pharmacother

January 2025

Channing Division of Network Medicine, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. Electronic address:

Gestational 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) is important in fetal lung development and may influence offspring respiratory outcomes, making accurate exposure assessment essential to understand clinical associations. Therefore, we used the combined data from two large RCTs investigating prenatal vitamin D supplementation, which included early and late prenatal 25(OH)D measurements, to refine a population pharmacokinetic model of vitamin D-25(OH)D and estimate individual area under the curve (AUC) Z-scores. The primary outcome was physician-diagnosed offspring asthma/wheezing at ages 3 and 6 years, and lung function, as a secondary outcome, was evaluated by spirometry at the ages 6 and 8 years.

Background: Evidence for a relation between residential greenspace and respiratory health is scarce and controversial.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the association between residential greenspace and its interaction with particulate matter (PM) and risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung function.

Methods: A total of 3,759 adults were recruited from Wenzhou in this study.

Objectives: To determine whether airway and parenchymal function identifies subgroups of infants born preterm according to the predominant pulmonary pathophysiology, and whether these subgroups have different risks for respiratory disease during infancy.

Study Design: We prospectively enrolled a cohort of 125 infants born preterm with planned clinical follow-up after NICU discharge. The study included monthly questionnaires for wheeze and visits to a physician or care provider for any respiratory illness.

Short-term modification of breathprint by Elexacaftor/Tezacaftor/Ivacaftor in a paediatric cohort.

Background: The triple combination Elexacaftor/Tezacaftor/Ivacaftor (ETI) translates into major respiratory improvements in adults; yet current clinical endpoints may prove insufficiently sensitive in young children. We hypothesised that ETI rapidly modifies the lungs' metabolism, resulting in changes in breath composition.

Methods: Eleven children with CF were enrolled in a longitudinal pilot study at the paediatric Necker hospital.

Sensitivity of Functional Arterial Spin Labelling in Detecting Cerebral Blood Flow Changes.

Br J Hosp Med (Lond)

December 2024

Department of Neurology, Wuhan Brain Hospital, General Hospital of Yangtze River Shipping, Wuhan, Hubei, China.

Arterial spin labelling (ASL) is a non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method. ASL techniques can quantitatively measure cerebral perfusion by fitting a kinetic model to the difference between labelled images (tag images) and ones which are acquired without labelling (control images). ASL functional MRI (fMRI) provides quantitative perfusion maps by using arterial water as an endogenous tracer instead of depending on vascular blood oxygenation level.
