Background: The aim of this study was to investigate psychiatric sequelae in open globe injury patients and to identify the risk factors associated with these sequelae.

Methods: After a complete ophthalmologic examination, Davidson Trauma Scale (DTS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Zung Depression Scale (ZDS) scores were administered to all patients. Patients were divided into 5 groups according to final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA): group 1 (no perception of light, NPL), group 2 [perception of light (PL) or hand movements (HM)], group 3 (1/200 to 19/200), group 4 (20/200 to 20/50), and group 5 (20/40 or above).

Intranasal Outer Cortex Splinting With a Kirschner Wire to Immobilize Reduced Buckle-out Segments in Nasal Fractures.

J Craniofac Surg

October 2024

Department of Plastic Surgery, Kyung Hee University Hospital, Kyung Hee University College of Medicine, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

High-velocity lateral impacts to the nose sometimes cause nasal buckle-out fractures with a trapdoor buckle-out segment displaced outwards. Prolonged immobilization of a reduced buckle-out segment at risk for outward redisplacement remains challenging. Here we introduce a novel method of intranasal outer cortex splinting with a Kirshner (K)-wire to reinforce the reduced state and prevent outward re-displacement of the buckle-out segment.

Midface deformities due to oncologic bony defects are often difficult to secondarily correct. The authors herein report 2 cases of secondary reconstruction of an oncological premaxillary defect using a π-shaped fibula osteocutaneous flap. The authors divided the fibula into 3 pieces and made it π-shaped to reconstruct the curvature of the premaxilla.

In this case report, a 19-year-old male patient with maxillary transverse deficiency, concave profile, and facial asymmetry is presented. In the case of transversal insufficiency, nonsurgical maxillary expansion was performed with the miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) appliance to reduce the number of surgeries and provide both dentoalveolar and skeletal expansion. The periodontal soundness and short-term stability of the maxillary expansion were confirmed both clinically and radiologically.
