Background: Irreversible hydrocolloid materials are widely used for both diagnostic and definitive impression procedures. Impressions can be disinfected by immersion or spraying in any compatible disinfectant. Disinfectants should not adversely affect the dimensional stability of the impression and physical properties of impression material and subsequent dental cast.

Objective: The study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a hypochlorous disinfectant solution mixed with irreversible hydrocolloid on setting time, antibacterial efficacy, and dimensional stability.

Methodology: Three groups were made with one control group and three alginate impression was made for each participants in the maxillary arch with 24-hours intervals between one another using the same brand of commercially available chromatic alginate. The working and setting time were noted. Bacterial swabs were collected using a dry sterile cotton swab in the mid palatal region. Dental casts were made using type III gypsum.

Result: The working and setting time had significant differences whereas the dimension among the cast has no significant difference. Microbial growth analysis had distinct differences among the groups.

Conclusion: The self disinfection method using a pioneer solution of hypochlorous HOCl (100 ppm) to mix the alginate impression material rather than the water with the same powder-liquid ratio prescribed by the manufacturer had the same dimensional stability with improved antimicrobial action.

Reversible and irreversible retention of heavy metals in saturated porous media: association with kaolin.

Environ Sci Process Impacts

December 2024

Anhui Bossco Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd, Ningguo, Anhui, 242301, China.

Contamination of heavy metals (HMs) has caused increasing concern due to their ecological toxicities and difficulties in degradation. The transport, retention, and release of HMs in porous media are highly related to their environmental fate and risk to groundwater. Column transport experiments and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the retention and release behaviors of Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn in the presence and absence of kaolin under varying ionic strengths and cation types.

Background: Impression materials can harbour microorganisms from saliva and blood, posing cross-contamination risks. However, post-setting disinfection might compromise the dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties of alginates. Hence, it was the aim of this research to assess the detail reproduction, tear strength, elastic recovery, and surface quality of the gypsum model of newly developed dental alginates with inherent antimicrobial properties.

Thermal degradation of 18 amino acids during pyrolytic processes.

Sci Rep

Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Genesis and Remediation of Groundwater Pollution, East China University of Technology, Nanchang, 330013, China.

Biomass pyrolysis greatly impacts climates, ecosystem dynamics, air quality, human health, global carbon and nitrogen cycle. The emissions of nitrogen-containing compounds from biomass pyrolysis highly depend on the protein nitrogen existing in biomass. However, the quantitative kinetic information, including the rate constant and apparent activation energy of individual amino acid induced by pyrolysis are still yet to be well-constrained.

Most embedding media for live and fixed samples were not designed for microscopy and have issues including long polymerization times, peak of toxicity toward the sample during the sol-gel transition, and irreversibility of this transition. Gels derived from biological sources are widely used in microscopy, but their precise composition is ill-defined and can vary between batches. Non-physiological temperatures and/or specific enzymatic solutions are often needed to revert the gel back to the sol state to allow sample recovery.
