A Qualitative Exploration of Intimate Partner Violence Among HIV/TB Coinfected Persons With Problematic Alcohol Use Participating in an Incentive-Based Alcohol/Medication Adherence Intervention in Uganda During COVID-19. | LitMetric
In Uganda, four in ten women report experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past year. Salient drivers of IPV in sub-Saharan Africa include stress related to household finances, alcohol use, and partner infidelity. We conducted 42 interviews with participants ( = 32) in the Drinkers' Intervention to Prevent Tuberculosis (DIPT) study which included economic incentives, and their partners ( = 10) to understand how participating in DIPT during COVID-19 lockdown restrictions impacted relationship dynamics in intimate partnerships. Our findings highlight the need to develop policies to address root causes of IPV and to ensure continuity of IPV services in future pandemics. Policy and programming recommendations based on study results are presented.
Research on the links between intimate relationships and PTSD and the treatments for PTSD tend to be limited to couples in which only one partner within the dyad has PTSD. No investigations, to our knowledge, have empirically examined the simultaneous provision of evidence-based PTSD treatment to both partners in an intimate relationship diagnosed with PTSD. The current case study describes two partners in a different-sex relationship, both diagnosed with current PTSD, who received individual Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy at the same time as part of a larger randomized clinical trial.
Objective: Evaluate the relationship between women's empowerment and the use of modern contraceptive methods.
Study Design: A secondary analysis was conducted using the 2022 Demographic and Health Survey of Peru, selecting women who were married, ever married, or cohabiting with a partner. The survey-based Women's Empowerment Index was employed to assess empowerment, and the dependent variable was the use of modern contraceptives at the time of the interview.
Objective: To assess sex, age, regional differences, and the changing trend in human immunodeficiency virus and tuberculosis (HIV-TB) in different regions from 1990 to 2021, and project future trends.
Methods: Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 data were analyzed to assess HIV-TB incidence, death, prevalence, and DALY rates from 1990 to 2021, including different types of TB co-infections (drug-susceptible, multidrug-resistant, and extensively drug-resistant). Bayesian age-period-cohort models were used to forecast age-standardized DALY rates through 2035.
Purpose: This article reports on a service evaluation of a domestic abuse intervention for hospital-based cancer professionals in two sites. The core component was a training and monitoring process, which hospital-based domestic abuse coordinators led. This role was adapted from a generic hospital role to be cancer specific.
This review aims to contribute to the understanding of violence against women and girls in conflict-affected and fragile settings through a systematic review and meta-analysis to document the available evidence on the prevalence of intimate partner violence and non-partner sexual violence during periods of armed conflict and in post-conflict periods. A total of 45 studies were included. Inclusion criteria were: population-based, observational studies that collected quantitative data with women (aged 15 years or older), included prevalence data on intimate partner violence or sexual violence, was collected in a conflict-affected context (active conflict or within 10 years after conflict) and was self-reported by women themselves.
