Acute heart failure is associated with high hospitalization and mortality rates. A strong, independent risk factor for mortality in patients with heart failure is acute kidney injury, and the condition caused by this connection between disturbances in heart function and proper kidney functioning is cardiorenal syndrome (CRS). This case report discusses the role of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in the management of a CRS case with septic shock due to pneumonia.

Hospital quality measures are a vital component of a learning health system, yet they can be costly to report, statistically underpowered, and inconsistent due to poor interrater reliability. Large language models (LLMs) have recently demonstrated impressive performance on health care-related tasks and offer a promising way to provide accurate abstraction of complete charts at scale. To evaluate this approach, we deployed an LLM-based system that ingests Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources data and outputs a completed Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock Management Bundle (SEP-1) abstraction.

COVID-19 is severe respiratory and systemic disease with complex pathogenesis and many clinical symptoms, including symptoms from respiratory system, immunology system, cardio-vascular system, haematopoietic system and neurological system. Severe character of the disease is associated with occurrence of respiratory failure, septic shock, multiple organ dysfunctions syndrome, which can lead to patients death due to cardiac arrest. Knowledge about interactions between the virus and human proteins as well as knowledge of immunological mechanisms against infection is a key to identifying the area of virus activity and severity factors of COVID-19.
