Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) and phosphates (TM-Pis) nanostructures are promising functional materials for energy storage and conversion. Nonetheless, controllable synthesis of crystalline/amorphous heterogeneous TMPs/TM-Pis nanohybrids or related nanoarchitectures remains challenging, and their electrocatalytic applications toward overall water splitting (OWS) are not fully explored. Herein, the NiP nanocrystals anchored on amorphous V-Pi nanosheet based porous flower-like nanohybrid architectures that are self-supported on carbon cloth (CC) substrate (NiP/V-Pi/CC) are fabricated by conformal oxidation and phosphorization of pre-synthesized NiV-LDH/CC. Due to the unique microstructures and strong synergistic effects of crystalline NiP and amorphous V-Pi components, the obtained NiP/V-Pi/CC owns abundant active sites, suitable surface/interface electronic structure and optimized adsorption-desorption of reaction intermediates, resulting in outstanding electrocatalytic performances toward hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions in alkaline media. Correspondingly, the assembled NiP/V-Pi/CC||NiP/V-Pi/CC electrolyzer only needs an ultralow cell voltage (1.44 V) to deliver 10 mA cm water-splitting currents, exceeding its counterparts, recently reported bifunctional catalysts-based devices, and Pt/C/CC||IrO/CC pairs. Moreover, the NiP/V-Pi/CC||NiP/V-Pi/CC manifests remarkable stability. Also, such device shows a certain prospect for OWS in acidic media. This work may spur the development of TMPs/TMPis-based nanohybrid architectures by combining structure and phase engineering, and push their applications in OWS or other clean energy options.

The development of inexpensive and reusable nanocatalysts to convert the hazardous pollutant 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) into a valuable platform chemical 4-aminophenol (4-AP) is quite demanding due to environmental and public health concerns. Herein, we report a facile strategy for the preparation of supported Bi nanoparticles (NPs) over the surfaces of nitrogen-rich porous covalent triazine-piperazine-3D nanoflowers (BiNPs@3D-NCTP). SEM and TEM image analysis suggested 3D-flower-like morphology of the composite consisting of the self-assembly of interweaving and the slight bending of the nanoflakes.

Natural designs provide abundant inspirations for constructing structure regulated, performance enhanced and function enriched materials. An impressive 3D brush-like silk nanostructure (SNB) was designed and regulated via template-guided self-assembly approach in our previous work. While fundamental issues on template-guided self-assembly process to construct SNBs and followed by regulating flower-like silk nanostructure (SNF) mineralization have not been studied in detail yet.

The design and construction of MOFs with flower-like structure could afford sufficient space for the immobilization of guests with large size and interconnected transport channels for their mass diffusion although it remains a challenge. Herein, wrinkled Ce-based hierarchically porous UiO-66 (Ce-WUiO-66) with good crystallinity was successfully synthesized for the first time using bicontinuous emulsion composed of 1-heptanol, water and F127 (PEOPPOPEO) surfactant as a template. F127 played a key role in the formation of emulsions as a stabilizer, and meanwhile its PEO segments interacted with MOF precursors to guide the evolvement of crystallized pore walls.

A simple, sensitive and reliable sensing system based on nitrogen-rich porous carbon (NRPC) and transition metals, NRPC/Ni, NRPC/Mn and NRPC/NiMn was developed and successfully applied as electrode materials for the quantitative determination of carbendazim (CBZ). The synergistic effect of NRPC and bimetals with acceptable pore structure together with flower-like morphology resulted in producing a highly conductive and interconnected network in NRPC/NiMn@GCE, which significantly enhanced the detection performance of CBZ. The electrochemical behavior investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) showed improved CBZ detection for NRPC/NiMn, due to the controlled adsorption/diffusion process of CBZ by the NRPC/NiMn@GCE electrode.

Phosphorus anode has shown great potential for the high-rate and high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, it still suffers from possible electrode cracking, ion-transport restrictions, and active-particle decomposition resulting from repeated alloying/de-alloying. To address the aforementioned issues, a nitrogen-doped flower-like porous phosphorus (f-P) sphere has been developed.
