The species of Y. S. Chen & S. R. Yi belongs to the family Asteraceae (Cardueae). The complete chloroplast genome of was assembled and annotated for the first time in this study. The complete chloroplast genome of was 152,535 bp, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 83,511 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,632 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,196 bp. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome was 37.7%. The chloroplast genome encoded 131 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete chloroplast sequences revealed that it related closely to .

Cosmopolitan in the western areas of Europe as well as on other continents, the Ilex genus is interesting for its genetic, phenotypic, and biogeographic variabilities. Its insular/local distribution, according to existing data on the periphery of the central and southern European areas, represents a suitable case study with reference to the adaptive plasticity or acclimatization of the L. species to new climatic conditions.

: Xi Junecry (), a perennial herb of the Araceae family, is indigenous to Xinxian County, Henan Province, China, and is regarded as a premium variety among similar medicinal materials. However, the lack of comprehensive genetic information on Xi Junecry germplasm resources has constrained the cultivation and identification of high-quality varieties. : In this study, six chloroplast genomes of Xi Junecry were assembled and annotated using high-throughput sequencing.

Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) are noncoding RNAs involved in protein biosynthesis and have noncanonical roles in cellular metabolism, such as RNA silencing and the generation of transposable elements. Extensive tRNA gene duplications, modifications to mature tRNAs, and complex secondary and tertiary structures impede tRNA sequencing. As such, a comparative genomic analysis of complete tRNA sets is an alternative to understanding the evolutionary processes that gave rise to the extant tRNA sets.
