This paper describes a cost-effective fracture simulation that aids in preclinical learning of fracture identification. This project establishes feasibility of inducing closed fractures in a donated cadaver. The study team made an identified Weber C ankle fracture in this donor, maintaining the soft tissue envelope surrounding the fracture, using minimal materials in a stepwise process that will be reproducible across educational programs regardless of access to highly specialized equipment. The resulting fracture can be used to help students identify fractures during their preclinical education and has demonstrated educational potential for future use and adaptation.

Undesirable loss of open-circuit voltage and current of metal halide perovskite (MHP) solar cells are closely associated with defects, so theoretical calculations have been often performed to scrutinize the nature of defects in bulk of MHPs. Yet, exploring the properties of defects at surfaces of MHPs is severely lacking given the complexity of the surface defects with high concentrations. In this study, IPb (PbI) antisite defects, namely one Pb (I) site being occupied by one I (Pb) atom at the surfaces of the FAPbI3 (FA = CH(NH2)2) material, are found to create electron (hole) traps when the surfaces with IPb (PbI) antisite defects are negatively (positively) charged.

Understanding the reversible transformation between two isomeric states of organic molecules under external stimulation is essential for advancing single-molecule device development. Photochromic diarylethene (DAE) derivatives are promising candidates for single molecular switching elements. This study investigates the single-molecule reactions of the closed-form isomer of a DAE derivative on Cu(111) using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).

Empathy plays a crucial role in social communication and the perception of affective states and behavioral processes. In this study, we observed that empathic interaction with a mouse experiencing pain resulted in decreased mechanical pain thresholds and anxiety-like behaviors in its bystander, though the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We demonstrated that CD38 expression in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) was upregulated during empathic pain, and the pain and emotions of CD38 knockout (CD38KO) mice as bystanders were not affected.

Over the last two decades the development of small probes has enabled percutaneous use of cryotherapy. Cryotherapy, also known as cryoablation, enables the treatment of much larger lesions than other thermal ablation techniques, particularly when using multiple evenly spaced probes. Using rapid cooling to as low as -200 degrees Celsius (at the tip of the probe), reliable, and predictable necrosis can be induced.

Given the increasing recognition of human dignity, exploring the occurrence of these negative emotional experiences and identifying mechanisms for their prevention are crucial.
