Verbascoside and isoverbascoside are two active phenylethanoid glycosides mainly found in plants of the order Lamiales. This study analyzes the verbascoside and isoverbascoside levels and the total phenolic contents in the water and ethanolic extracts of 20 medicinal plants of the order Lamiales commonly used in Thailand. The related bioactivities, including the antioxidant activity via the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reduction activity potential assays and anti-tyrosinase and -inflammatory activities via the cyclooxygenase and nitric oxide assays are also investigated. The extracts of several plant species, including , , , , and , exhibit high verbascoside and isoverbascoside content levels. The correlation analysis between the bioactive activities and the active compounds demonstrates a significant association between the verbascoside level in the water extracts and both the DPPH antioxidant activity and the nitric oxide level in the anti-inflammatory assays. This study provides the first report on the verbascoside and isoverbascoside quantification of several plant samples. The findings provide valuable insights for future research on lesser-studied plants possessing high verbascoside and isoverbascoside levels, which exhibit promising anti-inflammatory activities.

This study aims to identify the main chemical compounds, investigate the effects of different drying methods on the quality, and determine the appropriate drying method of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. UPLC-UV-Q-TOF-MS was employed to characterize and identify 35 main compounds, including phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, and iridoids in Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. A method for the simultaneous determination of 8 compounds with strong UV absorption and high content was established to evaluate the quality of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium dried by different methods.

Herbal teas are used in South Africa as digestives to lower glycaemia and for other indications. However, the chemical composition of the infusions and their effect on enzymes related to metabolic syndrome is poorly known. The composition of infusions and methanol extracts of (Scrophulariaceae), , , and (Verbenaceae) was assessed and the effect of the infusions and extract was determined towards α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and pancreatic lipase.

Three new neoclerodane diterpenoids (1-3), two new steroids (4-5), one new monoterpene (6), one new derivative of benzaldehyde (7) and one new iridoid glycoside (8), along with 19 known phenolic compounds, were isolated from Clerodendrum trichotomum. Their structures were established by a combination of detailed spectroscopic analyses (1D and 2D NMR) and high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (HRESIMS). The isolated compounds were screened on α-glucosidase inhibitory and the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) agonist activities, and the results showed that three phenylethanoid glycosides, verbascoside (9), leucosceptoside a (10), and isoacteoside (13), and two flavonoids, apigenin (22) and luteolin (26) showed potent inhibitory effects against α-glucosidase, with IC values in the range from 15 to 700 μM.

(PC) is used in traditional Chinese medicine and food, as it exerts pharmacological effects, such as immune-modulatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antitumor, and antiviral. Currently, the pharmacokinetics (PK) studies of PC mainly focus on individual components. However, research on these individual components cannot reflect the actual PK characteristics of PC after administration.
