Here, we report a rare case of bladder cancer within the left congenital periureteral diverticulum, termed the Hutch's diverticulum. Following transurethral resection of the bladder tumor, repeated pyelonephritis was caused by stricture of the diverticulum orifice and ureter. We attempted transurethral dilation and ureteral stenting, but the obstruction did not improve. The patient's renal dysfunction showed gradual progression due to recurrent left pyelonephritis as well as the ureteral obstruction. Therefore, we finally performed a partial cystectomy, involving stricture and ureteral reimplantation. No tumor recurrence was observed over 39 months, and renal dysfunction did not progress following partial cystectomy.

Renal fibrosis is widely recognized as the ultimate outcome of many chronic kidney diseases. The process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a critical role in the progression of fibrosis following renal injury. UHRF1, as a critical epigenetic regulator, may play an essential role in the pathogenesis and progression of renal fibrosis and EMT.

Macrophages play crucial roles in regulating both homeostatic and inflammatory responses, with classical activated (M1) and alternatively activated (M2) subsets defined by the surrounding micro-environment. Renal fibrosis, developed from persistent inflammation, is worsened by M2 macrophages, yet the precise mechanisms underlying macrophage M2 polarization remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of Kv1.

Several diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic urological procedures, such as stent placement, ureteroscopy, and bladder stone lithotripsy, can be performed in a hospital, an ambulatory surgery center, in the office with IV sedation, or in the office using only topical anesthesia. The potential benefits of performing procedures in the office setting using topical anesthesia include efficiency and cost reduction. The potential harms are failure to achieve the desired outcome and patient pain.

Neddylation is a process of attaching neuronal precursor cell-expressed developmentally downregulated protein 8 (NEDD8) to substrates for the protein function modulation via enzymatic cascades involving NEDD8-activating enzyme (E1), NEDD8-conjugating enzyme (E2), and NEDD8 ligase (E3). Defective in cullin neddylation 1 (DCN1) serves as a co-E3 ligase, that can simultaneously bind E2 UBE2M and cullin proteins to stabilize the catalytic center of the Cullin-Ring E3 ligase (CRL) complex, thereby promoting cullin neddylation. Neddylation is reported to be activated in diverse human diseases, and inhibition of protein neddylation has been regarded as a promising anticancer therapy.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) progresses through mechanisms involving inflammation, fibrosis, and oxidative stress, leading to the gradual structural and functional deterioration of the kidneys. Tormentic acid (TA), a triterpenoid compound with known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, shows significant potential in counteracting these pathological processes. This study explored the protective role of TA in a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)-induced CKD model.
