Nup107 contributes to the maternal to zygotic transition by preventing the premature nuclear export of pri-miRNA 427.

Emerging evidence suggests that the nuclear pore complex can have unique compositions and distinct nucleoporin functions in different cells. Here, we show that Nup107, a key component of the NPC scaffold, varies in expression over development: it is expressed at higher levels in the blastula compared to the gastrula suggesting a critical role prior to gastrulation. We find depletion of Nup107 affects the differentiation of the early germ layers leading to an expansion of the ectoderm at the expense of endoderm and mesoderm.

New insights into the role of complement system in colorectal cancer (Review).

Mol Med Rep

Key Laboratory of Immune Microenvironment and Inflammatory Disease Research in Universities of Shandong Province, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong Second Medical University, Weifang, Shandong 261053, P.R. China.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. With the growing understanding of immune regulation in tumors, the complement system has been recognized as a key regulator of tumor immunity. Traditionally, the complement cascade, considered an evolutionarily conserved defense mechanism against invading pathogens, has been viewed as a crucial inhibitor of tumor progression.

Background: Ventral hernias are a common but heterogeneous disease. Communication among key stakeholders (eg, patients, clinicians, administrators, payers, and researchers) can be augmented by a widely utilized classification system. The European Hernia Society (EHS) developed an expert-opinion-based hernia classification system organized by hernia type (primary versus incisional) and size.

Background: Being overweight/having obesity is a prevalent condition not only among the general population but also among individuals with special occupations such as police officers, where fitness is often a necessity. The present study's aim was to assess how much a psychoeducational intervention based on social cognitive theory (SCT) would be helpful for encouraging weight loss behaviors among police officers.

Methods: In a randomized control trial, 102 police officers who were overweight or had obesity voluntarily registered for a weight loss program and were assigned to either an intervention or control group.

Current state-of-the-art tools for analysing extracellular vesicles (EVs) offer either highly sensitive but unidimensional bulk measurements of EV components, or high-resolution multiparametric single-particle analyses which lack standardization and appropriate reference materials. This limits the accuracy of the assessment of marker abundance and overall marker distribution amongst individual EVs, and finally, the understanding of true EV heterogeneity. In this study, we aimed to define the standardized operating procedures and reference material for fluorescent characterization of EVs with two commonly used EV analytical platforms-nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and nano-flow cytometry (nFCM).
