Department of Neurology, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Jinan, Shandong, PR China; Institute of Epilepsy, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Post-stroke epilepsy (PSE) poses a significant challenge despite advances in stroke treatment. This study compares the efficacy of the novel anti-seizure medication (ASM) Perampanel with the classical ASM Oxcarbazepine in treating PSE.

Methods: This prospective randomized controlled trial recruited PSE patients from September 2022 to January 2024 across multiple hospitals.

We discuss an interesting case of a 65-year-old man with multiple dissociative episodes which previously had been assessed as fugues. After evaluation in the memory clinic these episodes appeared to be generalized epileptic seizures, with an electro-encephalographic diagnosis of non-convulsive status epilepticus. Throughout this case, the different features that characterize an epileptic versus a psychiatric etiology are being discussed as well as other differential diagnostic considerations.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that is treated with medications; however, patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, commonly intractable temporal lobe epilepsy, tend to have better control with surgical treatment. While the mainstay of surgical treatment is anterior temporal lobectomy, it carries risk of potential adverse effects hence minimally invasive techniques are now being used as an alternative to open surgery. This systematic review and meta-analysis compare the efficacy and safety of three of the most used techniques: laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).

Objective: Medical personnel show difficulty in differentiating psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) from epileptic seizures (ES). The purpose of this study was to conduct an initial feasibility assessment of the global dynamic impression (GDI) principle and to evaluate its effectiveness in enabling the diagnosis of epileptic versus psychogenic seizures using video footage of events, even by untrained personnel METHODS: We based this study on video footage showing five videos of PNES and five ES videos. We asked physicians and nurses from the emergency department, internal medicine department, neurology department, and medical students to classify the videos before and after learning the GDI principle.

Objectives: The rising cost of anti-seizure medications (ASMs) in the United States (US) is a major concern for patients, healthcare providers, insurance payors, and policymakers. We aim to describe and analyze the spending trends on ASMs in the Medicare Part D (MPD) and Medicaid population in the US.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on the databases of MPD and Medicaid Spending by Drug from 2012 to 2022, which was published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
