Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa's inherent and adapted resistance makes this pathogen a serious problem for antimicrobial treatments. Furthermore, its biofilm formation ability is the most critical armor against antimicrobial therapy, and the virulence factors, on the other hand, contribute to fatal infection and other recalcitrant phenotypic characteristics. These capabilities are harmonized through cell-cell communication called Quorum Sensing (QS), which results in gene expression regulation via three major interconnected circuits: las, rhl, and pqs system.

Abscission in plants: from mechanism to applications.

Adv Biotechnol (Singap)

August 2024

School of Agriculture and Biotechnology, Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen, 518107, China.

Abscission refers to the natural separation of plant structures from their parent plants, regulated by external environmental signals or internal factors such as stress and aging. It is an advantageous process as it enables plants to shed unwanted organs, thereby regulating nutrient allocation and ensuring the dispersal of fruits and seeds from the parent. However, in agriculture and horticulture, abscission can severely reduce crop quality and yield.

Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate for MRAs optimization in HFrEF: lessons learned from the REALIZE-K trial.

Heart Fail Rev

Centre d'Investigations Cliniques Plurithématique 1433 and INSERM U1116, CHRU Nancy, FCRIN INI-CRCT (Cardiovascular and Renal Clinical Trialists), Institut Lorrain du Coeur Et Des Vaisseaux, CHRU de Nancy, Université de Lorraine, Nancy, France.

Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) are a cornerstone of guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), offering significant benefits in reducing mortality and hospitalizations. However, their use is often constrained by the risk of hyperkalemia, particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease. Patiromer and sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC), two novel potassium binders, have emerged as highly effective and safe tools for managing hyperkalemia and enabling the optimization of MRA therapy.

Objectives: The objectives were to determine intensive care unit (ICU) incidence of broncho-aspiration (BA) and the effect of monitoring BA prevention protocols.

Methods: The Health Network Warehouse was interrogated for the diagnosis of BA in patients older than 18 years in the surgical ICU (SICU) from January 2010 to December 2020. A BA prevention bundle protocol was prospectively monitored during all consecutive SICU admissions from August 2021 to November 2021 until discharge/death (n = 159).

Background: Current evidence suggests higher physical activity (PA) levels are associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the mediating role of the circulating metabolome in this relationship remains unclear.

Methods: Targeted metabolomics data from 6,055 participants in the EPIC cohort were used to identify metabolites associated with PA and derive a metabolomic signature of PA levels.
