Background: Gastro-esophageal variceal hemorrhage (GEVH) is one of the major causes of life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding in children. Medical, endoscopic, angiographic, and surgical interventions can be utilized in treatment. In this case report, we describe partial splenic artery embolization for refractory GEVH due to portal vein thrombosis.

Background And Aims: The pattern of inflammation in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is patchy, necessitating multiple biopsies to optimize diagnostic yield. Current consensus-based guidelines recommend 6 total biopsies at two sites: distal and either middle or proximal esophagus, although based on limited data. We aimed to determine whether this biopsy protocol sufficiently captures EoE diagnoses by evaluating the distribution of eosinophilia in a large EoE cohort.

The latest Chicago Classification of esophageal motility disorders categorizes esophageal hypomotility disorders (EHD) into absent contractility (AC) and ineffective esophageal motility (IEM). While these disorders are commonly associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), they are not pathognomonic. To improve diagnostic accuracy, provocative maneuvers during high-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) -such as multiple rapid swallows (MRS) and single solid swallows (SSS) -have been introduced.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers and poses significant challenges to current therapies because of its complex immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Oncolytic viruses armed with immunoregulatory molecules are promising strategies to overcome limited efficacy and target inaccessible and metastatic tumors. In this study, we constructed a tumor-selective vaccinia virus (VV) with deletions of the TK and A49 genes (VVLΔTKΔA49, VVL-DD) using CRISPR-Cas9-based homologous recombination.

We report the case of an elderly patient with progressive dysphagia to solids and later to liquids, and weight loss. The patient underwent an upper endoscopy, which showed multiple stenoses and trachealization. Biopsies were taken and a diagnosis of lymphocytic esophagitis was made.
