Compared to the integer-order vector field, the fractional-order vector field has an additional degree of control freedom, which will bring rich photophysical properties and what we believe to be novel nonlinear optical phenomena. In this work, we theoretically and experimentally investigate the focusing, propagation, and spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM) of fractional-order linearly polarized vector fields (FLPVFs). It is shown that the weak focusing field of FLPVF exhibits an asymmetric intensity distribution. Intriguingly, its state of polarization (SoP) has a hybrid polarization distribution. When this focused FLPVF propagates to the far field in free space, its SoP degenerates into a localized linearly polarization distribution. However, after the focused FLPVF passes through an isotropic nonlinear Kerr medium, its SoP exhibits a hybrid polarization distribution. Additionally, unlike the self-diffraction intensity pattern of integer-order linearly polarized vector field (ILPVF) with a concentric multi-ring structure, the SSPM pattern of FLPVF is a symmetry broken self-diffraction intensity pattern. The presented work provides a nonlinear optics approach for manipulating both the SoP and intensity distributions of the light field.

A novel common-aperture miniaturized antenna with wideband and dual-polarized characteristics is proposed, which consists of a circularly polarized (CP) and a linearly polarized (LP) antenna. The circularly polarized antenna stacked on the upper layer adopts asymmetrical ground and introduces the patch and T-type feed network. On this basis, the meshed reflector structure, which also works as a ground plane for the LP antenna, is added to reduce the influence on circular polarization and achieve directional radiation.

Artificial microstructures, especially metamaterials, have garnered increasing attention in numerous applications due to their rich and distinctive properties. Starting from the principle of multi-beam interference, we have theoretically devised a beam configuration consisting of six symmetrically distributed coherent beams to generate two-dimensional microstructures with diverse shapes of unitcells under different polarization combinations. In particular, a split-ring metamaterial template is achieved with two adjacent circularly and four linearly polarized beams with such single-step holographic interferometry.

Sensing light's polarization and wavefront direction enables surface curvature assessment, material identification, shadow differentiation, and improved image quality in turbid environments. Traditional polarization cameras utilize multiple sensor measurements per pixel and polarization-filtering optics, which result in reduced image resolution. We propose a nanophotonic pipeline that enables compressive sensing and reduces the sampling requirements with a low-refractive-index, self-assembled optical encoder.

We demonstrate a simple, low-cost, and ultracompact chiral resonant metasurface design, which, by strong local coupling to a quantum gain medium (quantum emitters), allows to implement an ultrathin metasurface laser, capable of generating tunable circularly polarized coherent lasing output. According to our detailed numerical investigations, the lasing emission can be transformed from linear to circular and switch from right- to left-handed circularly polarized (CP) not only by altering the metasurface chiral response but also by changing the polarization of a linearly polarized pump wave, thus enabling dynamic lasing-polarization control. Given the increasing interest for CP laser emission, our chiral metasurface laser design proves to be a versatile yet straightforward strategy to generate a strong and tailored CP emission laser, promising great potential for future applications in both photonics and materials science.

This study introduces a simple approach to dynamically control multilevel optical ellipticity in ferrimagnetic GdFeCo alloys by switching the spin orientation through Joule heating induced by electrical current, with the assistance of a low magnetic field of 3.5 mT. It is demonstrated that selecting specific compositions of Gd (FeCo) alloys, with magnetic compensation temperatures near or above room temperature, allows for significant manipulation of the circular dichroism (CD) effect.
