Near-infrared (NIR) light accounts for about half of the solar spectrum, and the effective utilization of low-energy NIR light is an important but challenging task in the field of photocatalysis. Molecular semiconductor photocatalytic systems (MSPSs) are highly tunable, available and stable, and are considered to be one of the most promising ways to achieve efficient NIR hydrogen production. Here, we demonstrate efficient dual-excitation in MSPS consisting of ZnInS (ZIS) with sulfur vacancies and phytic acid nickel (PA-Ni), which differs from other NIR-responsive photosensitized systems. The system achieves a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of 119.85 μmol h g at > 800 nm illumination, which is an excellent performance among all reported NIR catalysts and even outperforms the noble metal catalysts when compared to the reported literature. The superior activity is attributed to the unique charge dynamics and higher carrier concentration of the system. This work demonstrates the potential of dual-excitation systems for efficient utilization of low-energy NIR light.

Metal halides are widely applied in solid-state lighting (SSL), optoelectronic devices, information encryption, and near-infrared (NIR) detection due to their superior photoelectric properties and tunable emission. However, single-component phosphors that can be efficiently excited by light-emitting diode (LED) chips and cover both the visible (VIS) and NIR emission regions are still very rare. To address this issue, (TPA)ZnBr:Sn/Mn (TPA = [(CHCHCH)N]) phosphors were synthesized by using the solvent evaporation method.

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) combines the use of photosensitizers with visible light to produce reactive oxygen species that effectively eliminate pathogens. To investigate the impact of near- infrared therapy (NIRT) on heme biosynthesis and permeability of the pro-photosensitizers 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and Hexyl-ALA (H-ALA) through biofilms, we applied sub-lethal conditions for both NIRT and PDI to maintain intact bacterial viability. During NIRT, the temperature remained below 37°C, permitting rapid heating (ΔT = 11°C) without causing thermal damage.

Bacterial infections can lead to severe medical complications, including major medical incidents and even death, posing a significant challenge in clinical trauma repair. Consequently, the development of new, efficient, and non-resistant antimicrobial agents has become a priority for medical practitioners. In this study, a stepwise hydrothermal reaction strategy is utilized to prepare FeO@MoS core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) with photosynthesis-like activity for the treatment of bacterial infections.

Thermochromic smart windows effectively reduce the energy consumption for buildings through passive light modulation including the transmission of visible (T) and near-infrared (T) light, and the emissivity of mid-infrared (ε) light in response to ambient temperature change. However, thermochromic windows that maintain high T while modulating T and ε simultaneously are highly desirable but still challenging. Here, we develop a thermochromic smart window based on a two-way shape memory polymer to enable reversible transformation and achieve T modulation of 44.
