"Nine Steaming Nine Sun-Drying" Polygonti rhizome has been used as valuable tonic health-care products for thousands of years. This research aimed to determine the correlations between the structure and anti-diabetic activities of three novel polysaccharides isolated from the raw and "Nine Steaming Nine Sun-Drying" Polygonti rhizome, with PRP-R from the raw ones and PRP-9Z and PRP-9A from the steamed ones. Structures of the isolated polysaccharides were determined by IR and NMR spectra, as well as monosaccharide composition and methylation analysis. In vitro assays indicated that PRP-9Z could improve the glucose consumptions more effectively than PRP-R and PRP-9A via Akt/GSK3β insulin signal pathway by western blotting analysis. In vivo assays indicated PRP-9Z could improve the glucose tolerance in the BKS-db mice. Histopathological assay demonstrated that PRP-9Z effectively reduced the damage of the kidney and liver. The above results indicated that PRP-9Z from "Nine Steaming Nine Sun-Drying" Polygonti rhizome showed significant anti-diabetic properties, which indicated that PRP-9Z with higher content of →1)-β-Frup-(2→ was more active than PRP-R with higher →1,6)-β-Fruf-(2→ and PRP-9A with higher →4)-β-Galp(1→.

Mixed fermentation of lactic acid bacteria and sourdough on quality and storage characteristics of steamed bun.

Food Chem X

December 2024

School of Food Science, Henan Institute of Science and Technology, Key Lab Breeding Base of College of Henan Province, Xinxiang Engineering Technology Research Center for Agricultural Products Processing, Research and Experimental Base for Traditional Specialty Meat Processing Techniques of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Xinxiang, Henan 453003, China.

The effect of mixed fermentation with sourdough and lactic acid bacteria ( and ), the physicochemical indexes, storage characteristics of dough and bun were investigated. Compared with sourdough-only dough and bun, the mixed fermentation significantly increase the total phenol, flavonoid and hydrolyzed amino acid content of the dough, the specific volume and height-diameter ratio of mixed fermentation bun increased significantly by 18.3 % and 7.

Steam Vein Sclerosis for Nonsaphenous varicose veins.

Ann Vasc Surg

November 2024

Vascular Surgery Department, Hôpital Privé des Côtes d'Armor, Plérin, France.

Background: The treatment of nonsaphenous varicose veins (NSVV), including incompetent perforating veins (IPV) and recurrent varicose veins (RVV), remains challenging for many reasons, including vein tortuosity, deep location and short vein to be treated. Data and recommendations are lacking. Steam vein sclerosis (SVS) is an endothermal therapy that has been used in the treatment of incompetent saphenous veins, achieving occlusion rates similar to other thermal ablation techniques with good patient tolerance and minimal postoperative pain.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Polygonatum (Huangjing) genus has been used as both food and medicine in China for 2000 years, which was regarded as a "Top-grade" herb in the Shennong Bencao Jing. The most commonly used species is the rhizome of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua (PC) that is traditionally utilized to invigorate Qi, nourish Yin, moisten lung, and tonify spleen and kidney.

Aim Of The Study: Excessive alcohol consumption causes severe upper-gastrointestinal diseases, notably gastric mucosal damage characterized by hemorrhagic gastritis, which lacks safe and effective intervention.

Effects of Steaming on Chemical Composition of Different Varieties of Purple-Fleshed Sweetpotato.

Foods

October 2024

Guangdong Province Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement, Crops Research Institute, Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guangzhou 510640, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Purple-fleshed sweetpotatoes (PFSPs) are a nutritious food high in anthocyanins, and their nutrient changes during steaming were examined in this study.
  • Steaming decreased starch content and increased soluble sugar in all PFSP varieties, with Guangshu20 showing the most significant changes.
  • The study also identified 54 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in PFSPs, indicating that taste and sweetness are affected by anthocyanins and soluble sugars, providing insights for better processing of PFSPs.
