Article Abstract

The experiments on rabbits revealed the depressant effect of anticonvulsant drug halonal on spontaneous bioelectrical activity and electroexcitability of the motor area of the cerebral cortex, caudate nucleus, intralaminar nuclei of the thalamus and midbrain reticular formation. The drug exerts no effect on the amygdala and hippocamp. The mechanism of the anticonvulsant effect of halonal involves inhibition of the caudo-thalamo-cortical synchronizing system that presumably disorders the occurrence of the hypersynchronous charge in the cortical neurons and prevents the development of a convulsive fit.

Differences in the brain sensitivity to color responses may cause significant differences in the latency and amplitude of the electroencephalographic (EEG) component. This paper investigated the electroencephalography features of binocular color fusion and binocular color rivalry when watching stereoscopic three-dimensional (3D) displays. EEG experiments were conducted on a conventional 3D display platform.

Background: Intraoperative awareness, without explicit recall, occurs after induction of anaesthesia in approximately 10% of persons under 40 yr of age. Most anaesthetic agents minimally suppress the noradrenergic system. We hypothesised that addition of dexmedetomidine, which suppresses noradrenergic activity, may reduce encephalographic (EEG) arousal in response to tracheal intubation; such an effect would lay the foundation for future studies of dexmedetomidine in reducing intraoperative awareness.

Patients with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (ADMCI) typically show abnormally high delta (<4 Hz) and low alpha (8-12 Hz) rhythms measured from resting-state eyes-closed electroencephalographic (rsEEG) activity. Here, we hypothesized that the abnormalities in rsEEG activity may be greater in ADMCI patients than in those with MCI not due to AD (noADMCI). Furthermore, they may be associated with the diagnostic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) amyloid-tau biomarkers in ADMCI patients.

Detecting directional couplings from time series is crucial in understanding complex dynamical systems. Various approaches based on reconstructed state-spaces have been developed for this purpose, including a cross-distance vector measure, which we introduced in our recent work. Here, we devise two new cross-vector measures that utilize ranks and time series estimates instead of distances.

Contralateral Neurovascular Coupling in Patients with Ischemic Stroke After Endovascular Thrombectomy.

Neurocrit Care

Background: Neurovascular coupling (NVC) refers to the process of aligning cerebral blood flow with neuronal metabolic demand. This study explores the potential of contralateral NVC-linking neural electrical activity on the stroke side with cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) on the contralesional side-as a marker of physiological function of the brain. Our aim was to examine the association between contralateral NVC and neurological outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke following endovascular thrombectomy.
