Motivated by the striking regularities between experimental quantities related to the vibrational properties of the 4d and 5d series early noted by Fernández Guillermet and Grimvall [Phys. Rev. B, 1989, 40(3), 1521], a systematic theoretical study has been made of the vibrational density of states (VDOS) of Ag, Au, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ir, Ru, Os, Tc, Re, Mo, W, Nb, Ta, Zr and Hf. The frequency moments (), expressed as Debye temperatures () for 0 ≤ ≤ 100 were evaluated. Various remarkable correlations between these quantities are reported, which have their roots in the relations of homology between the VDOS. From the (), several () quantities with dimensions of force constants are calculated. For the elements 4d and 5d transition series, these quantities are shown to be strongly correlated, with independence of the value of . It is suggested that the various interrelations between the () and () parameters arrived at in the current work have their roots in the homologous variations of the cohesion forces across the 4d and 5d transition series, as revealed by thermophysical properties such as the bulk modulus and the cohesive energy.

Athermal (i.e., zero-temperature) underconstrained systems are typically floppy, but they can be rigidified by the application of external strain, which is theoretically well understood.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a dynamic transdifferentiation of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells. EMT programs exhibit great diversity, based primarily on the distinct impact of molecular activities of the EMT transcription factors. Using a panel of cancer cell lines and a series of 71 triple-negative primary breast tumors, we report that the EMT transcription factor ZEB1 modulates site-specific chemical modifications of ribosomal RNA (rRNA).

Background: Rare diseases (RDs) are a heterogeneous group of complex and low-prevalence conditions in which the time to establish a definitive diagnosis is often too long. In addition, for most RDs, few to no treatments are available and it is often difficult to find a specialized care team.

Objectives: The project "acERca las enfermedades raras" (in English: "bringing RDs closer") is an initiative primary designed to generate a consensus by a multidisciplinary group of experts to detect the strengths and weaknesses in the public healthcare system concerning the comprehensive care of persons living with a RD (PLWRD) in the region of Catalonia, Spain, where a Network of Clinical Expert Units (Xarxa d'Unitats de Expertesa Clínica or XUEC) was created and is being implemented since 2015.

Epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of anterior prostate cancer.

Nat Rev Urol

Department of Urology, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.

Anterior prostate cancers (APCs) are a group of impalpable neoplasms located in regions anterior to the urethra, which comprise the transition zone, apical peripheral zone and anterior fibromuscular stroma. These regions are typically undersampled using conventional biopsy schemes, leading to a low detection rate for APC and a high rate of false negatives. Radical prostatectomy series suggest prevalence rates of at least 10-30%, but transperineal systematic biopsy is ideal for diagnosis, particularly where multiparametric MRI is unavailable.

With the ongoing energy transition, power grids are evolving fast. They operate more and more often close to their technical limit, under more and more volatile conditions. Fast, essentially real-time computational approaches to evaluate their operational safety, stability and reliability are therefore highly desirable.
