ZnO-ZrO mixed oxide (ZnZrO) catalysts are widely studied as selective catalysts for CO hydrogenation into methanol at high-temperature conditions (300-350 °C) that are preferred for the subsequent zeolite-catalyzed conversion of methanol into hydrocarbons in a tandem process. Zn, a key ingredient of these mixed oxide catalysts, is known to volatilize from ZnO under high-temperature conditions, but little is known about Zn mobility and volatility in mixed oxides. Here, an array of and characterization techniques (scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Infrared (IR)) was used to reveal that Zn species are mobile between the solid solution phase with ZrO and segregated and/or embedded ZnO clusters. Upon reductive heat treatments, partially reversible ZnO cluster growth was observed above 250 °C and eventual Zn evaporation above 550 °C. Extensive Zn evaporation leads to catalyst deactivation and methanol selectivity decline in CO hydrogenation. These findings extend the fundamental knowledge of Zn-containing mixed oxide catalysts and are highly relevant for the CO-to-hydrocarbon process optimization.

Ultra-fast activated NH-intercalated vanadium oxide cathode for high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

School of Environmental and Materials Engineering, Yantai University, Yantai 264005, China. Electronic address:

Vanadium-based oxides hold immense promise as cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs); however, their practical implementation faces a significant hurdle: a prolonged activation period is typically required to achieve peak performance. This activation process, which often requires hundreds of cycles, arises from the complex behavior of mixed-valence vanadium systems. In this paper, we propose a solution based on an elegant and simple electrical activation strategy.

Electronic address:

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) impact renal function, with albumin playing dominant role in their transport and accumulation. However, the mediating role of albumin in PFAS-induced renal impairment and the identification of sensitive populations remain uninvestigated.

Methods: This study included 9328 individuals from NHANES 1999-2018 with data on serum PFAS, creatinine, albumin, and covariates.

The synergistic activation of gaseous oxygen and surface lattice oxygen is essential for designing highly efficient catalysts to eliminate VOCs. Herein, an effective acid treatment was carried out to create more oxygen vacancies by modulating the electronic structure of MgMnO spinels and MgMnO mixed oxides. The acid-treated MgMnO exhibited outstanding catalytic performance, with the reaction rate of benzene rising by 8.

The therapeutic benefit of the oral adsorbent drug AST-120 in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is related to an indoxyl sulfate (IS)-lowering action. Diabetes and dyslipidemia might worsen kidney damage in CKD. However, it is not known whether AST-120 influences lipid abnormalities as well as renal function in patients with CKD and diabetes.
