This study tests the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis in the transport sector for 28 OECD countries from 1990 to 2019. As a novelty, the relationship between gross domestic product (GDP) and carbon dioxide (CO) emissions from the transport sector is investigated with the estimation of the dynamic panel threshold regression based on the generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator by Seo and Shin (Seo and Shin, J Econom 2:169-186, 2016). This approach enables us to test EKC and capture possible nonlinearities between variables. Along with the analysis of the EKC hypothesis, our study also investigates the effects of road petroleum products consumption, renewable energy consumption, and trade openness on transport CO emissions. The threshold regression results, where GDP per capita is employed as the transition variable, support the nonlinear relationship between CO emissions from the transportation sector and GDP by rejecting the null hypothesis of no threshold effect. This finding indicates the existence of two different regimes, i.e., the lower and upper regimes, based on the optimum value of the GDP per capita. Economic growth damages the environment in the lower regime, whereas it improves environmental quality in the upper regime. Therefore, the results indicate the presence of an inverted U-shaped relationship and support the EKC hypothesis in the OECD transportation sector. As a result, it is concluded that achieving sustainable economic growth is critical for investing in environmentally friendly technologies required to achieve the goal of reducing transportation-related CO.

In situ-Induced Crystal Facet Engineering to Enhance the Rate Performance of Zn Storage.

In recent years, aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have shown considerable promise in the energy storage sector, attributed to their inherent high safety and cost-effectiveness. ZnVO(OH)·2HO (ZVO) has emerged as a promising candidate for Zn storage in recent years, owing to its exceptional structural stability that endows it with an excellent cycle life. However, an unsatisfactory rate performance is a limiting factor for its development in ZIBs.

Impact of low back and neck pain on the Spanish women-workers' health: effectiveness of a Back School.

Eur J Phys Rehabil Med

Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health Area, Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences, University of Salamanca, Institute for Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL), Salamanca, Spain -

Background: Neck and back pain pathologies are currently the main cause of absenteeism from work in Spain and in the European Union, and represent a high socio-labor, economic and health cost for the Health Systems.

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of a Back School Program of a Spanish mutual insurance company (risk factors, pain and disability scales) in women workers with low back or neck pain.

Design: We combined a descriptive study of first-session data collected in the total sample and a prospective multicenter intervention study in those participants who completed the second and third check-up at 6 and 9 months.

Today's globalised agricultural sector poses significant environmental challenges that are expected to worsen with population growth, increased urbanisation, and with the effects of climate change. In this context, vertical farming systems have gained traction as potential solutions to create a more resilient and sustainable food system. This study aims to evaluate the environmental performance of mixed salad bags from a conventional supply chain and compare it with that of mixed salad supplied by a large-scale vertical farm.

The estimation of CO emission factors (EFs) is a key step in calculating automobile CO emissions. However, city-level research on the integrated estimation of vehicle CO EFs under real conditions is insufficient. To enrich the research methods of city-level vehicle CO EFs, this paper constructs a vehicle-road-driver three-layer regression model and estimates vehicle CO EFs empirical parameters for Tianjin.

Background: Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence (BCCOE) was founded to serve Rwanda's rural low-income population, providing subsidized cancer diagnosis and treatment with transport stipends for the lowest-income patients. We examined whether travel distance to BCCOE was associated with advanced-stage diagnoses and treatment completion.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using medical record data from BCCOE patients with pathologically-confirmed breast cancer from 2012-2016.
