We estimated the racial disparity in rates of invasive infections based on community coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rates at the county level. Our data suggest that COVID-19 infection burden (1) affects not only hospital-onset MRSA invasive infection risk but also community-onset invasive infection risk and (2) affects Black residents ∼60% more than White residents.

Background: As a prevalent and deadly malignant tumor, the treatment outcomes for late-stage patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) are often suboptimal. Previous studies have shown that tumor progression is closely related with tumor metabolism and microenvironment reshaping, with disruptions in energy metabolism playing a critical role in this process. To delve deeper into the understanding of CSCC development, our research focused on analyzing the tumor microenvironment and metabolic characteristics across different regions of tumor tissue.

Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the clinicopathological features, radiographic manifestations, treatment options, and prognosis of primary pulmonary angiosarcoma (PPAS).
Method: We summarized and analyzed the clinical data of 11 patients with primary pulmonary angiosarcoma treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University between January 2018 and January 2024. A retrospective analysis was conducted in conjunction with a review of the relevant literature.

Background/aim: This study evaluated the outcomes of combining submucosal turbinectomy with extensive disruption of the pterygopalatine ganglionic efferent nerve fibers through a minimucosal incision in patients with intractable rhinitis, irrespective of their dependency on the posterior nasal nerve.
Patients And Methods: We describe an endoscopic extended neurectomy procedure performed via a minimucosal pocket. The primary outcome measures included the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, and runny nose and nasal obstruction subdomains of the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22), which were assessed pre-procedure and at 3 and 6 months post-procedure.

The ApxIVA protein belongs to a distinct class of a "clip and link" activity of Repeat-in-ToXin (RTX) exoproteins. Along with the three other pore-forming RTX toxins (ApxI, ApxII and ApxIII), ApxIVA serves as a major virulence factor of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, the causative agent of porcine pneumonia. The gene encoding ApxIVA is located on a bicistronic operon downstream of the orf1 gene and is expressed exclusively under in vivo conditions.

Background: The transoral transpharyngeal odontoidectomy, followed by occipitocervical fixation, have traditionally been a recognized method for ameliorating ventral compression at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ), despite its associated comorbidities. As an alternative, the endoscopic endonasal odontoid resection is a viable approach for various CVJ abnromalities that preserve the oropharynx and leads to fewer procedure-related complications(1-4). We present our case to detail the technical nuances of the procedure and its advantages over other techniques.
