This study presents a stepwise exoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of alkynols with ketones, leading to the synthesis of 4-methylene-1,3-dioxolane derivatives. Remarkably, without any Thorpe-Ingold induced effect, the cyclization reaction was demonstrated with complete regio- and chemoselectivity, which was solely promoted by cesium carbonate. A wide range of unactivated ketones are viable under these mild reaction conditions, and both primary and tertiary alkynols are compatible with these cyclization reactions. We have prepared a diverse array of highly dense exomethylene 1,3-dioxolane rings demonstrating a remarkable tolerance for various functional groups.

Tetrahydroxydiboron has previously been used as a borylation or reducing reagent in organic synthesis. Herein, we present a novel tetrahydroxydiboron-promoted radical addition of internal alkynes followed by intramolecular oxidation of alcohol through 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer. Preliminary mechanistic studies showed that the process might be initiated through ,-dimethylformamide-assisted homolytic cleavage of tetrahydroxydiboron.

We have investigated the gas-phase ( = 1 atm; = 373 K) hydrogenation of (tertiary alkynol) 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (MBY) and (secondary) 3-butyn-2-ol (BY) over a series of carbon (C), non-reducible (AlO and MgO), and reducible (CeO and ZnO) supported monometallic [Pd (0.6-1.2% wt) and Zn (1% wt)] and bimetallic Pd-Zn (Pd:Zn mol ratio = 95:5, 70:30, and 30:70) catalysts synthesized by deposition-precipitation and colloidal deposition.

In this paper we outline how dihalohydration reactions of propargylic alcohols can be used to access a wide variety of useful halogenated building blocks. A novel procedure for dibromohydration of alkynes has been developed, and a selection of dichloro and dibromo diols and cyclic ethers were synthesized. The dihalohydration of homo-propargylic alcohols provides a useful route to 3-halofurans, which were shown to readily undergo cycloaddition reactions under mild conditions.

A selective and convenient synthesis of tri- and tetrasubstituted α,β-unsaturated ketones, as well as 2,3-diarylbenzofurans has been developed with the aid of light and taking advantage of a cooperative gold/photoredox-catalyzed 2-fold arylation reaction of TMS-terminated alkynols. The reaction of 3-(trimethylsilyl)prop-2-yn-1-ols was competent to generate diarylated α,β-unsaturated ketones; whereas the photoredox sequence involving 2-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenol exclusively afforded 2,3-diarylbenzofurans. The reaction of terminal alkynes proceeded in poor yields while the use of bulkier silyl groups, such as TIPS, resulted unproductive.
