Introduction: MRI is the imaging modality of choice for assessing patients with encephalopathy. In this context, we discuss a novel biomarker, the "split ADC sign," where the cerebral cortex demonstrates restricted diffusion (high DWI signal and low ADC) and the underlying white matter demonstrates facilitated diffusion (high or low DWI signal and high ADC). We hypothesize that this sign can be used as a biomarker to suggest either acute encephalitis onset or to raise the possibility of an autoimmune etiology.

Materials And Methods: A full-text radiological information system search of radiological reports was performed for all entities known to produce restricted diffusion in the cortex excluding stroke between January 2012 and June 2022. Initial MRI studies performed upon onset of clinical symptoms were screened for the split ADC sign.

Results: 25 subjects were encountered with a positive split ADC sign (15 female; median age = 57 years, range 18-82). Diagnosis included six herpes simplex encephalitis, three peri-ictal MRI changes, eight PRES, two MELAS, and six autoimmune (3 anti-GABAR, two seronegative, and one anti-Ma2/Ta). Subjects were imaged at a mean 1.8 days after the onset of symptoms (range 0-8).

Discussion: We present a novel visual MRI biomarker, the split ADC sign, and highlight its potential usefulness in subjects with encephalopathy to suggest acute disease onset or to raise the possibility of an autoimmune etiology when location-based criteria are applied. When positive, the sign was present on the initial MRI and can therefore be used to help focus further clinical and laboratory workup.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined if ADC map values of breast lesions with non-mass enhancement on MRI could distinguish between benign and malignant cases.
  • A total of 136 patients underwent ultrasound-guided biopsies, and radiologists measured ADC values independently, comparing results to pathology reports.
  • The whole tumor region of interest (ROI) showed the highest sensitivity at 91% for detecting benign lesions, while there were no significant ADC value differences between fatty and dense breast tissues.

Hydrogen gas (H) can be produced via entirely solar-driven photocatalytic water splitting (PWS). A promising set of organic materials for facilitating PWS are the so-called inverted singlet-triplet, INVEST, materials. Inversion of the singlet (S) and triplet (T) energies reduces the population of triplet states, which are otherwise destructive under photocatalytic conditions.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) represent a significant advancement in targeted cancer therapy, offering the potential to selectively deliver cytotoxic drugs to tumor cells while minimizing systemic toxicity. However, the structural complexity of ADCs, particularly those conjugated through cysteine residues, poses significant analytical challenges. Due to the hydrophobicity of ADCs, Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC) is often the method of choice to analyze the drug-to-antibody ratio (DAR).

Background: Postoperative progressive cerebral edema and hemorrhage (PPCEH) are major complications after meningioma resection, yet their preoperative predictive studies are limited. The aim is to develop and validate a multiparametric MRI machine learning model to predict PPCEH after meningioma resection.

Methods: This retrospective study included 148 patients with meningioma.

The isolation of silicon analogues of phenyl anions such as (CH) and (CH) is challenging owing to their extremely high reactivity associated with their silylene character and weak C-Si π-interaction. Herein, we report the first annulated 1,4-disilabenzene-1,4-diide compound [(ADC)Si] () based on anionic dicarbene (ADC) scaffolds (ADC = PhC{N(Dipp)C}; Dipp = 2,6-PrCH) as a green-yellow crystalline solid. Compound is prepared by KC reduction of the Si(IV) chloride [(ADC)SiCl] () or the cyclic bis-chlorosilylene [(ADC)SiCl] (), which are also prepared for the first time.
