Published: December 2023

Blume is a genus in the family Acanthaceae, with many species endemic to the Indian subcontinent. Nees is endemic to the southern Western Ghats of India. The essential oil of dried inflorescence of was extracted using hydrodistillation method and the chemical composition was determined using GC and GC-MS techniques, which revealed the major compound to be fenchyl acetate (89.33%). Other minor compounds like -fenchol (3.74%), ()-caryophyllene (1.07%), and limonene and β-phellandrene (0.55%) were also observed. The major diastereomer of fenchyl acetate was determined using 2D-NMR techniques like HSQC, HMBC, and ROESY to confirm the configuration. The optical rotation of the oil in different solvents deduced that the laevorotatory enantiomer of -fenchyl acetate as the major or single compound. could be further explored as a major source of -fenchyl acetate, which has high importance in flavouring and other biological applications.

Diuretic Potential of Fenchyl Acetate with Its Mechanism of Action: Toxicity Study.

ACS Omega

November 2023

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ibn Zohr University, Laayoune 70000, Morocco.

Hypertension has become a global threat and is one of the greatest risk factors for chronic kidney disease. Fenchyl acetate is a monoterpene that has been assessed for its various pharmacological activities in the past, but no study has evaluated its diuretic potential and the mechanism involved in the diuretic activity after prolonged administration in rats. Therefore, this study aimed to measure the safety and diuretic profile of fenchyl acetate in rats.

Shandong matcha has the quality characteristics of bright green color, seaweed-like aroma and strong, fresh and brisk taste. In order to identify the characteristic aroma components and clarify the contribution of the grinding process to the aroma of Shandong matcha. Three grades of Shandong matcha and corresponding tencha material were firstly tested with sensory evaluation, and the volatile components were extracted with headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE) and analyzed using GC-MS.
