In an ideal germanium detector, fully-absorbed monoenergetic -rays will appear in the measured spectrum as a narrow peak, broadened into a Gaussian of width determined only by the statistical properties of charge cloud generation and the electronic noise of the readout electronics. Multielectrode detectors complicate this picture. Broadening of the charge clouds as they drift through the detector will lead to charge sharing between neighboring electrodes and, inevitably, low-energy tails on the photopeak spectra. We simulate charge sharing in our germanium cross strip detectors in order to reproduce the low-energy tails due to charge sharing. Our goal is to utilize these simulated spectra to develop an analytical fit (shape function) for the spectral lines that provides a robust and high-quality fit to the spectral profile, reliably reproduces the interaction energy, noise width, and the number of counts in both the true photopeak and the low-energy tail, and minimizes the number of additional parameters. Accurate modeling of the detailed line profiles is crucial for both calibration of the detectors as well as scientific interpretation of measured spectra.

Background: NIAGADS is a national genomics data repository that facilitates access of genotypic and sequencing data to qualified investigators for the study of the genetics of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related neurological diseases. Collaborations with large consortia and centers such as the Alzheimer's Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC), Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) Consortium, the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), and the Genome Center for Alzheimer's Disease (GCAD) allow NIAGADS to lead the effort in managing large AD datasets that can be easily accessed and fully utilized by the research community.
Method: NIAGADS is supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under a cooperative agreement.

As the investigation of high efficiency thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials become more mature, regulating the emission properties for single organic luminescence molecules has gained increasing interest recently. Herein, the donor-acceptor compounds F-AQ comprised of fluorene and anthraquinone is reported, and it exhibits a polymorphism with muti-color emission and TADF from high-level intersystem crossing (hRISC). The photodynamics and excited-state transient species were studied by femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopy.

Designing and optimizing photocatalysts to maximize the use of sunlight and achieve fast charge transport remains a goal of photocatalysis technology. Herein, a full-spectrum-response BiOBr:Er@BiO core-shell S-scheme heterojunction is designed with [Bi─O] tetrahedral sharing using upconversion (UC) functionality, photothermal effects, and interfacial engineering. The UC function of Er and plasmon resonance effect of BiO greatly improves the utilization of sunlight.

There is an urgent need for improved energy storage devices to enable advances in markets ranging from small-scale applications (such as portable electronic devices) to large-scale energy storage for transportation and electric-grid energy. Next-generation batteries must be characterized by high energy density, high power density, fast charging capabilities, operation over a wide temperature range and safety. To achieve such ambitious performance metrics, creative solutions that synergistically combine state-of-the-art material systems with advanced architectures must be developed.
