In this study, a hexagonal plate ultrasound (HPU) pretreatment technology was employed to modify soy protein isolate (SPI) and enhance the hypocholesterolemic activity of enzymatic digests from SPI. Results demonstrated that under the condition of ultrasound power density of 40 W/L, the hypocholesterolemic activity of enzymatic digests from HPU-pretreated SPI (HPU-SPI) increased by 88.40 % compared to control group after gastrointestinal digestion. The sulfhydryl content of HPU-SPI increased by a maximum of 45.32 % compared to control group. Fourier transform infrared and scanning electron microscopy revealed that HPU pretreatment partially unfolded the SPI conformation, reduced the intermolecular interactions, and exposed the internal hydrophobic regions. Pearson correlation analysis showed that sulfhydryl groups (r = 0.860), disulfide bonds (r = -0.875) and random coil (r = 0.917) were strongly correlated with the cholesterol-lowering activity of soy protein hydrolysate (SPH), following a simulated gastrointestinal digestion. Finally, the effects of HPU pretreatment on enzymolysis kinetics and thermodynamics of the SPI enzymatic process showed that HPU pretreatment significantly reduced the Mie's constant, activation energy, activation enthalpy, activation entropy and Gibbs free energy. Overall, the study outcome suggested that HPU pretreatment could positively influence the hypocholesterolemic peptide activity, and thus, may be beneficial to the pharmaceutical/food industry.

Fruit waste is one of the main components of municipal waste. To study its potential and characteristics in anaerobic digestion, this study took fruit waste and its waste liquid as raw materials, investigate the influence of thermal pretreatment on the anaerobic digestion characteristics under 35 ± 17 °C. The anaerobic digestion materials were fruit waste liquid (group A1), fruit waste liquid after thermal pretreatment (group A2), fruit slurry (group A3), and the material of A2 and A3 mixed with municipal sludge (groups A4 and A5) has also been involved.

The potential of high-power ultrasonication (HPU) to enhance the physicochemical stability of bran-containing cereal products has been demonstrated, but the information concerning how the wholegrain volatilome and key quality-related chemical reactions evolve responding to HPU remains scarcely reported. The objective of this work was to examine the headspace volatile fingerprinting features of sonicated wholegrain brown rice (WBR; 400 W, 28 kHz, 30 min) following an accelerated storage testing (37 °C, 20 days), and simultaneously to identify the key chemical reactions induced by ultrasonication. A total of 70 aroma compounds were identified by the untargeted headspace GC-MS, including 9 alkanes, 6 alkenes, 15 aldehydes, 6 furans, 12 ketones, 9 alcohols and 13 miscellaneous compounds.

Surface modification on Mg alloys is highly promising for their application in the field of bone repair. In this study, a new metal-organic framework/MgF₂ (Mg-MOF-74/MgF₂) composite coating was prepared on the surface of AZ31B Mg alloy via pre-treatment of hydrofluoric acid and in situ hydrothermal synthesis methods. The surface topography of the composite coating is compact and homogeneous, and Mg-MOF-74 has good crystallinity.
