Mouth-to-microphone (MTM) distance is important when measuring the sound of voice. However, determining the MTM distance for laryngoscope-mounted microphones during laryngoscopic examinations is cumbersome. We introduce a novel solution for such cases, using the depth of insertion of the laryngoscope into the mouth as a reference distance. We measured the average insertion depth, , in 60 adult women and 60 adult men for rigid laryngoscopes with 70° and 90° view. We found the for the 70°/90° laryngoscope to be 9.7 ± 0.9/9.4 ± 0.6 cm in men, 8.9 ± 0.9/8.7 ± 0.7 cm in women, and 9.3 ± 0.9/9.0 ± 0.7 cm in all adults. Using these values, we show that, for microphones fixed at 15-40 cm from the tip of the laryngoscope, the final MTM distances are between 5 and 35 cm from the lips, and the standard uncertainties of these distances are between 16% and 2.5%. Our solution allows laryngologists and laryngoscope manufacturers to set and estimate the MTM distance for any rigid laryngeal endoscope with a microphone attached with reasonable accuracy, avoiding the need to measure this distance in vivo in routine practice.

Purpose: To quantitatively characterize the posterior morphology of high myopia eyes with posterior staphyloma.
Methods: Surface points of the eyeball were automatically extracted from magnetic resonance imaging scans using deep learning. Subsequently, the topography of posterior staphylomas was constructed to facilitate accurate visualization and quantification of their location and severity.

This study aims to develop methods to design the complete magnetic system for a truly portable MRI scanner for neurological and musculoskeletal (MSK) applications, optimized for field homogeneity, field of view (FoV), and gradient performance compared to existing low-weight configurations. We explore optimal elliptic-bore Halbach configurations based on discrete arrays of permanent magnets. In this way, we seek to improve the field homogeneity and remove constraints to the extent of the gradient coils typical of Halbach magnets.

Objectives: To investigate the feasibility of MRI nerve-bone fusion imaging in assessing the relationship between inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) / mandibular canal (MC) and mandibular third molar (MTM) compared with MRI-CBCT fusion.
Materials And Methods: The MRI nerve-bone fusion and MRI-CBCT fusion imaging were performed in 20 subjects with 37 MTMs. The Hausdorff distance (HD) value and dice similarity coefficient (DSC) was calculated.

Temporal changes in environmental conditions may play a major role in the year-to-year variation in fitness consequences of behaviours. Identifying environmental drivers of such variation is crucial to understand the evolutionary trajectories of behaviours in natural contexts. However, our understanding of how environmental variation influences behaviours in the wild remains limited.
