According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 1 million children worldwide are diagnosed with tuberculosis each year. The Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine has been used around the world for over 100 years. The complications of the BCG vaccination can occur in about 0,06% of children and include local or systemic adverse reactions. Due to the close analogy between the vaccine strain and other species of the complex (MTBC), molecular methods are recommended for differential diagnosis of Vaccine adverse events (VAE) after BCG. The ability to quickly and specifically identify BCG is important in view of different treatment regimens. The aim of the study was to assess the usefulness of genetic testing for BCG in the paraffin-embedded specimens' methods. We describe two cases of VAE in immune-compromised children presenting with osteoarticular changes that had been clinically suspected of tuberculosis and led to molecular identification through GeneXpert, GenoType MTBC, and Spoligotyping. Results: BCG was detected in osteoarticular changes embedded in paraffin block of two patients. Conclusion: Genetic tests using paraffin-embedded materials allow for quick identification and differential diagnosis of patients with Tuberculosis and VAE after BCG. This is an important issue, especially in cases where the tissue has only been submitted for histopathological examination without microbiological diagnostics for tuberculosis.

In this study, we used primary bovine mammary epithelial cells(BMECs)as a model and utilized overexpression and knockdown techniques for the PI4K2A gene to investigate the specific mechanisms by which it regulates lipid metabolism in BMECs. We studied whether PI4K2A regulates the inhibition of trans-10, cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid (t10,c12-CLA) on lipid synthesis in BMECs.

Mutations in genes that initiate and regulate the complex pathways involved in eye development can cause a spectrum of disorders such as ASD, congenital cataracts and corneal opacity. In South Africa, causes of ASD are poorly understood with few studies looking at the possible genetic basis for these disorders.

An approach combining enzymatic inhibition and untargeted metabolomics through molecular networking was employed to search for human recombinant full-length protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1 B) inhibitors from a collection of 66 mangrove-associated fungal taxa. This strategy prioritized two strains (IQ-1612, section , and IQ-1620, section ) for further studies. Chemical investigation of strain IQ-1612 resulted in the isolation of a new nonanolide derivative, roseoglobuloside A (1: ), along with two known metabolites (2: and 3: ), whereas strain IQ-1620 led to the isolation of four known naphtho-γ-pyrones and one known diketopiperazine (4: -8: ).

Heterocytes, specialized cells for nitrogen fixation in cyanobacteria, are surrounded by heterocyte glycolipids (HGs), which contribute to protection of the nitrogenase enzyme from oxygen. Diverse HGs preserve in the sediment and have been widely used as evidence of past nitrogen fixation, and structural variation has been suggested to preserve taxonomic information and reflect paleoenvironmental conditions. Here, by comprehensive HG identification and screening of HG biosynthetic gene clusters throughout cyanobacteria, we reconstruct the convergent evolutionary history of HG structure, in which different clades produce the same HGs.

Methods: We analyzed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in kidney tissues from 14 LN patients and 7 normal controls using the GSE112943 dataset.
