Article Synopsis
  • A female neonate born to consanguineous parents exhibited severe hyperparathyroidism (NSHPT) after a C-section, showing signs of respiratory distress and skeletal abnormalities following birth.
  • Diagnostic challenges included elevated calcium levels and a homozygous variant in the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) gene, leading to the establishment of NSHPT.
  • Management of NSHPT is critical due to its high mortality risk; treatment options typically involve addressing the high calcium levels and associated metabolic issues.

Lethal and Sublethal Toxicity of Nanosilver and Carbon Nanotube Composites to -A Toxicogenomic Approach.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Environment and Climate Change Canada, Aquatic Contaminant Research Division, 105 McGill, Montreal, QC H1S 1E7, Canada.

The increasing use of nanocomposites has raised concerns about the potential environmental impacts, which are less understood than those observed with individual nanomaterials. The purpose of this study was to investigate the toxicity of nanosilver carbon-walled nanotube (AgNP-CWNT) composites in . The lethal and sublethal toxicity was determined based on the characteristic morphological changes (retraction/loss of tentacles and body disintegration) for this organism.

Collard-like BiS@Au nanocomposites-based label free electrochemical immunosensor for quantitative detection of CA19-9.

Talanta

November 2024

School of Materials and Chemistry & Institute of Bismuth and Rhenium, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, 200093, China. Electronic address:

Here, a label-free immunosensor was conducted using rGO/Collard-like BiS@Au nanocomposite system to detect carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) as a diagnostic biomarker for Pancreatic cancer. The unique morphology of Collard-like BiS increases its specific surface area, which allows it to immobilize more materials and biomolecules on its surface. To realize the covalent bonding of bismuth-based materials with biomolecules, bismuth-based materials were functionalized by Au NPs.

Effects of restraint stress and orthodontic treatment on physical and psychological states in rats.

J World Fed Orthod

November 2024

Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Institute of Stomatology, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To explore the effects of restraint stress and orthodontic tooth movement on the body weight and behavior of rats.

Materials And Methods: Twenty 8-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham stress nonorthodontic (CC), sham stress orthodontic (CO), stress nonorthodontic (SC) and stress orthodontic (SO). Rats in the stress group were subjected to restraint stress for 21 days, and those in the orthodontic group received molar retraction on days 8 to 21 (D8-D21).

Radical treatment for prostate cancer is associated with significant morbidity. Percutaneous image-guided irreversible electroporation is a non-thermal ablative technique that has emerged as a valuable option. This study describes the case of a patient with prostate cancer who was successfully treated using irreversible electroporation.
