A 41-year-old man with posthepatic liver cirrhosis and bleeding tendency was found to have a circulating anticoagulant with potent antithrombin activity. The thrombin time of the patient's purified fibrinogen was normal. This anticoagulant was residing in the patient's IgG fraction, and his IgG fraction could prolong the thrombin time of purified fibrinogen, suggesting that this circulating anticoagulant was an antibody. No heparin was detected in the patient's plasma. However, the antithrombin activity of this anticoagulant could be neutralized by toluidine blue or methylene blue ex vivo.

Objective: To investigate the predictive value of soluble FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), coagulation function, and platelet (PLT) parameters for preeclampsia (PE).
Methods: A prospective study was conducted on women registered and delivered at XXXX Hospital from October 2020 to December 2021. All eligible pregnant women were recruited at the time of initial registration in the first trimester.

PA-BJ is a serine protease present in Bothrops jararaca venom that triggers platelet aggregation and granule secretion by activating the protease-activated receptors PAR-1 and PAR-4, without clotting fibrinogen. These receptors also have a relevant role in endothelial cells, however, the interaction of PA-BJ with other membrane-bound or soluble targets is not known. Here we explored the activity of PA-BJ on endothelial cell receptor, cytoskeleton, and coagulation proteins in vitro, and show the degradation of fibrinogen and protein C, and the limited proteolysis of actin, EPCR, PAR-1, and thrombomodulin.

Objective: To investigate the screening efficacy of six thrombotic markers for hypercoagulable state (HCS) in pregnant women, including thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), plasmin-alpha-2 plasmin inhibitor complex (PIC), thrombomodulin (TM), tissue-type plasminogen activator inhibitor complex(t-PAI-C), D-dimer(D-D), and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP).
Methods: This was a retrospective study. Eighty-five high-risk pregnant women who underwent antenatal examination at Baoding maternal and Child Health Hospital from December 2022 to September 2023 were included as the observation group, while 85 healthy pregnant women without complications or comorbidities who underwent routine antenatal examinations at our hospital were randomly enrolled as the control group.

We investigated the sex-dependent effects of inflammatory responses in visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), as well as hematological status, in relation to cardiovascular disorders associated with prediabetes. Using male and female hereditary hypertriglyceridemic (HHTg) rats-a nonobese prediabetic model featuring dyslipidemia, hepatic steatosis, and insulin resistance-we found that HHTg females exhibited more pronounced hypertriglyceridemia than males, while HHTg males had higher non-fasting glucose levels. Additionally, HHTg females had higher platelet counts, larger platelet volumes, and lower antithrombin inhibitory activity.

Paradoxical embolism occurs when a clot originates in the venous system and traverses through a pulmonary or intracardiac shunt into the systemic circulation, with a mortality rate of around 18%. The risk factors for arterial embolism and venous thrombosis are similar, but different disease entities can lead to a hypercoagulable state of the blood, including antithrombin III (AT III) deficiency. We report the case of a 43-year-old man with a massive central pulmonary embolism with a rider embolus and concomitant aortic arch embolism with involvement of the brachiocephalic trunk, bilateral subclavian and axillary arteries, and the right vertebral artery, followed by a secondary ischaemic stroke.
